The thought of 'aspiring to realize' means abandoning the Lesser Vehicle by not engaging in the practices of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas who enter the path for their own sake. Cultivating the grounds and perfections so that both oneself and others may attain unsurpassed enlightenment is the thought of aspiring to realize the Great Vehicle. The thought of 'acting for the benefit of all sentient beings' refers to all sentient beings who are born from the four types of birth and wander in the six realms. Thinking of establishing them in virtue in this life, so that they may attain the fruits of gods and humans in future lives, and achieve liberation, is called the thought of acting for all benefits. The thought of 'supreme aspiration' is thinking that the Three Jewels are the pinnacle of qualities among all gods and humans, and are supreme. The thought of 'moral discipline' is taking the vows of a Bodhisattva and thinking of practicing without contradicting them. The thought of 'perfection' is thinking of cultivating the ten perfections, such as generosity. The thought of 'the meaning of that alone' is thinking of realizing the nature of emptiness, the meaning of the selflessness of phenomena and persons. The thought of 'power' is thinking of attaining the six superknowledges, such as the divine eye. The thought of 'benefit' is thinking of making sentient beings happy in this life. The thought of 'happiness' is thinking of making sentient beings joyful in future lives. The thought of 'definite liberation' is that even when benefiting sentient beings, one does not expect any reward in this life, nor does one expect any ripening of karma in future lives. The thought of 'steadfastness' is not changing one's mind from the moment one first generates the mind of enlightenment. The thought of 'non-deception' is to have a clear and decisive understanding of the means to benefit oneself and others, without being confused about the methods or losing one's way. The thought of 'impure' is thinking of cultivating the stage of practice with aspiration. The thought of 'pure' is thinking of cultivating from the first ground up to and including the seventh ground. The thought of 'extremely pure' is the eighth ground
