So-called equanimity means there is no gain or loss, and even if one does not make offerings or listen to the Dharma, no malice or hatred will arise. Therefore, one maintains equanimity towards those who do not listen respectfully. Sometimes one is respectful and strives to make offerings and listen to the Dharma. Sometimes one does not strive, neither making offerings nor listening to the Dharma. In this case, even when one is respectful, joy does not arise, and when one is disrespectful, anger does not arise. This is called maintaining equanimity towards those who listen respectfully and those who do not listen respectfully. What are the three distinctions of giving? Giving is the giving of material possessions, the giving of wives and children, and the giving of life and body. Ordinary people, even if they are rich and possess things, are not generous and only give away insignificant children and relatives. Those who do not possess or possess but are stingy do not give to others. Noble ones, even if they are generous, will not become impoverished because of it, and will give to all sentient beings. If they do not have possessions, they will give their body and life. Therefore, there are three distinctions of giving. Giving immediate food and drink, and long-term goods such as gold, silver, clothing, and food, is the giving of material possessions. Giving children, wives, servants, attendants, working methods, and even the kingdom, is the giving of wives and children. Giving the head, hands, feet, flesh, blood, and even the life of the body, is the giving of life and body. What are the four Dharma seals? Impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. That is to say, the meaning of all internal and external phenomena is contained in these four words, so they are the four Dharma seals. They can also be combined with the three natures: the nature of the completely imputed is not constant, so it is impermanent. The nature of the other-powered is the root of all suffering, so it is suffering. The nature of the thoroughly established has no entity that can be established as a Dharma, so it is empty. There is no entity that can be established as a person, so it is selfless. What are the four parts of a Bodhisattva's conduct through aspiration? The increase of appearances, the single direction towards the meaning of suchness, and uninterrupted samadhi. That is to say, when cultivating the five faculties and five powers, one particularly likes and focuses on the single aspect of virtue, accompanied by effort and diligence. These are the four parts of conduct through aspiration. Regarding this, all the names established for internal and external phenomena
