Meditating with the body is to realize the liberation of suffering with the body. Even though one meditates in this way, if afflictions such as attachment do not arise, it is called abiding in completion. In all ways, having completely transcended the perception of form, all perceptions of obstruction have ceased, and not attending to various perceptions, thinking that space is infinite, and abiding in the completion of the sphere of infinite space, this is the fourth liberation. The objects of eye consciousness, such as blue and yellow colors, all colors and shapes are broken down into emptiness, and because there is no object, consciousness also does not arise. If consciousness does not arise, then the perception associated with it also does not arise, and that is called completely transcending the perception of form in all ways. The objects of ear and other consciousnesses, sound, smell, taste, and touch, all obstructive forms are broken down into emptiness, and because objects do not arise, the consciousnesses that focus on them also do not arise. Because they do not arise, the perceptions associated with them also do not arise, and that is called the cessation of all perceptions of obstruction. In this way, the five consciousnesses cease, and because they do not arise, the mental consciousness that follows them, and the perception associated with it, also do not arise, and that is called not attending to various perceptions. In this way, because external objects and the consciousnesses that move towards objects do not arise, all phenomena are exhausted as mere space, and entering into samadhi thinking that space is infinite, that is called thinking that space is infinite, and abiding in the completion of the sphere of infinite space. In all ways, having completely transcended the sphere of infinite space, thinking that consciousness is infinite, and abiding in the completion of the sphere of infinite consciousness, this is the fifth liberation. All phenomena are exhausted as mere space, and entering into samadhi thinking that space is infinite, moving the mind towards that, but space is not only infinite, thinking that space is infinite, the consciousness associated with the perception of the object, also thinking that it is infinite like space, entering into samadhi, that is in all ways.

Having completely transcended the sphere of infinite space, and having perfected the sphere of infinite consciousness, one abides, and this is called the sphere of infinite consciousness. In every way, having completely transcended the sphere of infinite consciousness, thinking 'there is nothing at all,' and having perfected the sphere of nothingness, one abides, and this is the sixth liberation. Having moved on from the sphere of infinite consciousness, if one examines what could be an object beyond consciousness, and not seeing any form or formless phenomena at all, one enters into meditative equipoise thinking 'there is nothing at all,' and this is in every way completely transcending the sphere of infinite consciousness, and having perfected the sphere of nothingness, one abides. In every way, having completely transcended the sphere of nothingness, and having perfected the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, one abides, and this is the seventh liberation. Having moved on from the sphere of nothingness, thinking 'this perception is like a disease, a boil, and a thorn, it is faulty,' and thus blocking it, becoming more and more subtle, and also thinking 'if there is no perception at all, one will become dull, that is not right,' and thus abiding in an extremely subtle perception, one enters into meditative equipoise, and this is in every way transcending the sphere of nothingness, and having perfected the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, one abides. In every way, having completely transcended the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, and having physically realized and abided in the cessation of perception and feeling, this is called the eighth liberation, which is moving on from the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, and is called the meditative equipoise of cessation. That is to say, in every way completely transcending the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. In that state, perception is blocked, and through its power, the six consciousnesses and the afflicted mind are also blocked. Feeling, all three, are suffering, and perception is like a disease, a boil, and a thorn, therefore blocking them and abiding, this is called physically realizing and abiding in the cessation of perception and feeling. This means that one has completely abandoned the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing, and has also partially abandoned the afflictions to be abandoned by meditation.
