Being extremely diligent in order to become capable is the fruit of diligence. Thus, if body and mind are capable and one obtains mastery of diligence, there will be no place for laziness. Therefore, the first four activities are the antidote to laziness. The antidote to the remaining four faults is to apply each of the four activities in sequence. The antidote to forgetting the object is mindfulness. If sinking and excitement arise, one will be able to recognize what has arisen. Therefore, the antidote to sinking and excitement is vigilance. The antidote to non-application (non-effort) is attention, because if sinking and excitement arise, one uses attention to draw it back into calm abiding. The antidote to overly intense application is equanimity, because when it shakes, one cultivates not shaking, so it is called the activity of abandonment. The samadhi of mind is because in previous lives one cultivated meditation, or in this life one has cultivated samadhi from the beginning, accumulated familiarity, and through the power of long-term cultivation, one obtains single-pointedness of mind. The samadhi of diligence refers to when one abandons sinful and unwholesome dharmas, generates and increases the antidotal wholesome dharmas, and makes continuous effort without interruption, thereby obtaining single-pointedness of mind. The samadhi of investigation refers to listening to the supreme Dharma from a virtuous friend, analyzing the characteristics of dharmas such as impermanence and emptiness with the wisdom of thought, establishing them, and investigating without doubt, thereby obtaining single-pointedness of mind. The magical foot endowed with the activity of abandonment means: Just as it is connected with the samadhi of desire, each of the following is also like that, connecting everything in that way. The five faculties are the faculty of faith, the faculty of diligence, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of samadhi, and the faculty of wisdom. So, why is it called a faculty? Because it has the power to generate the roots of virtue that are in accordance with the aspect of liberation. Or, believing, rejoicing, and wishing are faith. If one has it, one will think, "I must be liberated from samsara," and thereby initiate diligence. Diligence has the power to accomplish the three trainings, and the faculty of mindfulness has the power to increase discipline.

It exerts power over the law. The power of Samadhi exerts power over the superior mind. The power of wisdom exerts power over the superior wisdom. Or, because the power of the superior causes the inferior to arise, it is called power. Among them, having faith and joy in karma, result, truth, and the Three Jewels is the power of faith. Continuously engaging in virtuous deeds such as listening, contemplating, and meditating is the power of diligence. Not forgetting and clearly remembering the meaning of listening, contemplating, and meditating is the power of mindfulness. The mind not being distracted and wandering in objects such as form and sound is the power of Samadhi. Clearly and accurately determining the self and common characteristics of all phenomena without confusion is the power of wisdom. Although one has such power, it is still somewhat mixed with unfavorable aspects and is sometimes interrupted. In the stage of strength, unfavorable aspects such as disbelief, laziness, forgetfulness, distraction, and lack of awareness do not appear at all, so it is called strength. Actually, it is the strength of faith, the strength of diligence, the strength of mindfulness, the strength of Samadhi, and the strength of wisdom. Their nature is the same as the five faculties, and the difference lies in the distinction between being mixed and unmixed with unfavorable aspects. The four that correspond to the aspect of certainty are also established upon them, namely, obtaining appearance, increasing appearance, the one-sidedness of it, and immediately following it. When one knows that the names given to phenomena are merely illusions and that the meanings expressed by names are merely illusions, it is the five faculties, combined with obtaining appearance and increasing appearance. When one knows that the names that have been named are empty and that the meanings expressed by names are empty, it is the five strengths, combined with the one-sidedness of it and immediately following it. These are the characteristics of joining the path of seeing with power and strength. The seven branches of enlightenment are the branch of perfect mindfulness enlightenment, the branch of perfect discrimination of dharma enlightenment, the branch of perfect diligence enlightenment, and joy.

And the limb of perfect enlightenment, and the limb of perfect enlightenment of thorough pliancy, and the limb of perfect enlightenment of samadhi, and the limb of perfect enlightenment of equanimity. These are: the limb of nature, the limb of place. The third is the limb of definite emergence. The fourth is the limb of benefit. The three are the limbs without affliction. Thus it is said. The sound of enlightenment is the understanding that all phenomena are empty, which is non-conceptual wisdom. Moreover, it is combined with the limb of discriminating dharma and enlightenment, which is both the main part and the limb. The other six are called the seven limbs because they become its companions. Right mindfulness is the limb of the place of the wisdom of discriminating dharma, because if there is mindfulness, wisdom arises and is born from it, therefore it is called the place. Discriminating dharma is the limb of nature because it makes one realize the characteristics, because it is the nature of wisdom. Diligence is the limb of definite emergence, because it definitely emerges from the state of individual beings and transcends it. Joy is the limb of benefit, because the joy of seeing the first ground benefits and satisfies the body and mind. Thorough pliancy, samadhi, and equanimity are the three limbs without affliction. Thorough pliancy is the basis of non-affliction. Samadhi is the place of non-affliction. Equanimity is the nature of non-affliction. Why is that? If there is adaptability of body and mind, then attachment and distraction, etc., do not arise, and because the mind is focused on one point, it eliminates the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing, and after eliminating the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing, from then on, afflictions such as attachment do not arise, and the mind is placed in a continuous stream of purity, therefore the basis of non-affliction, and the place, and the nature are combined one by one in order, which is the summary of the meaning of the verses. The eight limbs of the noble path are right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, and
