Also, because they are mutually dependent, they are called name and form. Because of the gate of birth, it is said to be the six sense sources, meaning that mind and mental phenomena are the cause of birth and arising, so it is called a gate. In reality, the six faculties such as the eye are the six sense sources. Because of contact, it is called contact, meaning that the combination of object, faculty, and consciousness is called contact. Because of experiencing, it is called feeling, meaning that when object, faculty, and consciousness are combined, with whatever cause one touches a pleasant object, an unpleasant object, or neither, the feeling also experiences the three aspects of pleasure and pain, so it is called feeling. Because of thirst, it is called craving, meaning that like being tormented by thirst, one wants to be separated from painful feelings, and wants to encounter and be with pleasant feelings, so it is called craving. Because of grasping, it is called grasping, meaning the four graspings, namely desire grasping, view grasping, ethical discipline and conceit of asceticism grasping, and self-assertion grasping, so it is called grasping. Also, because of being born into existence again, it is called existence, meaning being born in the three realms, that is, from the cause of birth—the accumulation of karma and afflictions—one is born in the next life, so it is called existence. Because of the arising of aggregates, it is called birth, meaning that in the five paths, the aggregates of the body of gods and humans, etc., arise from non-existence, so it is called birth. Because of the ripening of the aggregates, it is called aging, meaning that like a fruit ripening and becoming old, the hair turns white and wrinkles appear, so it is called aging. Because of destruction, it is called death, meaning that the time for the body's aggregates to exist is exhausted, and it is abandoned by warmth and consciousness and destroyed, so it is called death. Because it is the occasion, it is said that these sufferings also belong to the limbs of birth and old age and death, and are related. Sorrow is the mental pain of fearing separation from relatives, friends, and useful possessions. Lamentation is speaking and weeping the story of the cause that led to sorrow. Suffering is physical weakness and discomfort. Discomfort is mental weakness and discomfort. Strife

Regret means recalling all the various misdeeds committed in the past and feeling sorrow in one's heart. The term "to speak" means to add an explanation at the end of dependent arising. What are the ten pāramitās? The ten pāramitās are so called because they enable one to transcend the ocean-like suffering of the three realms and thereby gradually attain the ten bhūmis. Specifically, the pāramitā of generosity is the giving of dharma, material goods, and fearlessness. Among these, giving and benefiting others through sacred Dharma and worldly poetry, as well as crafts and magical skills, is dharma-giving. Giving and benefiting others with food, drink, wealth, and so on, even cities, lands, kingdoms, servants, fields, livestock, treasures, consorts, and one's own flesh, blood, head, body, and other internal and external things, is material giving. Protecting and benefiting others from the punishments of kings and ministers, as well as the fears of enemies and wild animals, is the giving of fearlessness. Practicing these with the three circles of purity is called pāramitā. The pāramitā of discipline is the three types of discipline: accumulating virtue, abstaining from non-virtue, and benefiting sentient beings. Among these, accumulating virtue means listening to and contemplating the sacred Dharma, and practicing the Dharma of enlightenment, such as the bhūmis and pāramitās. Abstaining from non-virtue refers to the seven sections of the Vinaya of the Śrāvakas, which are the vows protected by the parents of monks, the parents of nuns, the parents of novices, and the śikṣamāṇā. Benefiting sentient beings means benefiting all sentient beings without discrimination, just as one cherishes an only child. Practicing with the three circles of purity applies to everything below as well. The pāramitā of patience is threefold: not minding suffering, not being angry at harm, and patience in realizing the Dharma. Among these, not minding suffering means that when doing good, one does not give up or interrupt the continuation of virtue, no matter what harmful circumstances arise, such as hunger, thirst, cold, or heat. Not being angry at harm means not being
