Therefore, it is called the application of abandonment. What are the five faults? They are: laziness, forgetting the instructions, agitation and sinking, not applying effort when agitation and sinking should be extremely pacified, and applying effort when agitation and sinking are extremely pacified. In order to abandon these, how are the eight applications of abandonment established? In order to abandon laziness, four applications of abandonment are established, namely: aspiration, effort, faith, and extreme pliancy. These are also the basis, what abides in it, the cause, and the result, namely: aspiration is the basis of effort. Effort is what abides in that aspiration. Faith is the cause of the basis of aspiration. Extreme pliancy is the result of the abiding effort. In order to abandon the remaining four of those faults, the remaining four applications of abandonment are established in order, namely: mindfulness is not forgetting the object, and if mindfulness does not forget, then agitation and sinking are realized. Attention is, having realized, applying effort to the side of separation from them. Equanimity is because of abiding in reality when that agitation and sinking become nearly pacified. Thus, what are the previous samadhis such as aspiration, and what are these applications of abandonment, all of those are combined into one, abandoning predispositions and completely accomplishing samadhi, this is called the foot of miraculous power that possesses the application of abandonment of the samadhi of aspiration, and the foot of miraculous power that possesses the application of abandonment of the samadhi of effort, mind, and investigation, namely: what arises from the cause of cultivating the eight applications of abandonment of the five faults is the samadhi of aspiration, effort, mind, and investigation, and it should be known that those four samadhis themselves are the four feet of miraculous power. So, why is it called the foot of miraculous power? For example, just as one who has feet is able to go, return, and reach the other shore, similarly, whoever possesses the qualities of the eight applications of abandonment of the five faults, and what arises from the cause of cultivating those is aspiration and so on.

And those four samadhis are also fully possessed, and in that way, the mind is completely pure, completely subdued, without afflictions, free from near afflictions, upright, able to abide, and having attained immovability, then one can attain the supramundane dharmas, and be able to revert and subdue others. Therefore, like this, the excellent magical powers and excellent qualities of those supramundane dharmas, in order to attain them, the four samadhis that are the basis are called the feet of magical power. Like that, the four feet of magical power are the path of complete taming, so they are called the object of mind-abiding, and just like that, one can completely destroy the latent afflictions, attain the complete antidote samadhi, generate the roots of virtue that are in accordance with liberation, and know that one begins to practice the path of associating with the roots of virtue that are in accordance with the decisive part. After that, the state of those two, which shows the object of mind-abiding with ten objects, and shows the path of completely taming samadhi with four feet of magical power, is widely shown. The summarized meaning of those is fourfold, namely, ground, object, nature, and its branch. Among them, the ground is the four dhyanas. The object is the four objects. The nature is knowing the four noble truths. Its branch is the eight branches of knowing the four noble truths, namely, the branch of application, the branch of aspect, the branch of hoping for that, the branch of unfavorable aspects, the branch of antidote, the branch of antidote, the branch of the place of antidote, and the branch of the means of not degenerating from the practice of antidote, namely, one object, four objects, each object, in order. Among them, for the time being, from where is the object of the place of mind-abiding? Therefore, it is said that it is called the object of dwelling happily in this life, the ground is the four dhyanas, those are the place where the object of mind-abiding exists, and it should be combined like that. That is only a symbol, the desire realm
