From the bud comes the heartwood. From the heartwood comes the flower. From the flower comes the fruit, it is said. What are the external interdependent causal connections? They are the six elements: the earth element, the water element, the fire element, the wind element, the space element, and the time element, all combined. What is the detailed distinction and classification of the causes, conditions, and results of both of these? It should be understood in four aspects: characteristics, location, detailed distinctions, and classifications. What are the characteristics? Whatever pre-exists, whatever it relies on, and when it encounters what, what dharma arises, is attained, is accomplished, exists, or acts, that is the nature of cause, condition, and result. Among these, what pre-exists is the nature of the cause. "Relying on what" and "encountering what" are the nature of the condition. "What dharma arises," and so on, is the nature of the result. Therefore, cause means benefit, condition means existence, and result means accomplishment. So, what pre-exists? What does it rely on? Encountering what? What dharma will arise? One's own seed is what pre-exists. Relying on places other than the seed's location, both with form and without form, and also relying on karma, when encountering friends and objects, dharmas with desire, form, formlessness, existence, and non-existence will arise. These should be applied appropriately. What pre-exists? What does it rely on? Encountering what? What dharma will be attained? The lineage of the Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, and Tathagatas is what pre-exists. Relying on the power of the internal limbs, when encountering the power of the external limbs, liberation from afflictions, the peace of Nirvana, will be attained. What pre-exists? What does it rely on? Encountering what? What dharma will be accomplished? The pre-existence of interest and desire for knowable things, relying on vows, reasons, and examples, when encountering an assembly that does not disagree with the opponent, the meaning to be proven will be accomplished. What pre-exists? What does it rely on? Encountering what?

If asked, what dharma is accomplished? Skill in crafts is something that exists beforehand. Relying on diligence that is in accordance with this, if one encounters implements and tools that are in accordance with the place of skillful activity, then that place of skillful activity will be accomplished. What exists beforehand? Relying on what? Encountering what? If asked, what dharma exists? Craving is something that exists beforehand. Relying on the body that is based on food, if one encounters the four kinds of food, then the aggregates of sentient beings will exist and increase by relying on survival. What exists beforehand? Relying on what? Encountering what? If asked, what dharma will produce an effect? One's own seed is something that exists beforehand. Relying on birth, if one encounters the conditions for birth, then one's own dharma will have its own effect, and one will produce one's own action. For example, the eye sees, and the remaining faculties also each produce their own action, the earth stabilizes, and it should be known that external objects similar to this also each produce their own action. This is the nature of cause and condition, and effect. So, what are the places of cause, condition, and effect? There are fifteen, namely, word, feeling, habit, seed with moisture, cessation after contact, object, faculty, action, the action of a person, merely looking at it, similarity, various powers, assembly, obstruction, and non-obstruction. Among these, word is speech that is aroused by discrimination. Feeling is experiencing pleasure and pain, and so on. Habit is the habit of the formative aggregate that is influenced by virtuous and non-virtuous actions. Seed with moisture is action with craving and the seed of grain with water moisture. Cessation after contact is the condition that has just ceased. Object is the object of focus. Faculty is the master. Action is the actions of the formative aggregates and their respective actions. The action of a person is the effort of a person that arises in order to accomplish things. Merely looking at it, the correct view of the mundane and supramundane. Similarity is homogeneity. Various powers are the different abilities of the formative aggregates. Assembly is arising together. Obstruction is
