What is mindfulness? It is being mindful of the past, and if a downfall has occurred, repenting according to the Dharma, which is mindfulness with regard to the former limit. It is being mindful of the future, and if a downfall has occurred, repenting according to the Dharma, which is mindfulness with regard to the latter limit. It is being mindful of the present, and if a downfall has occurred, acting according to the Dharma, which is mindfulness with regard to the middle limit. Before a downfall has occurred, acting and abiding in such a way that a downfall will not occur in the future, which is mindfulness of acting from the beginning. Acting and abiding in such a way that a downfall will not occur immediately or in the future, which is being endowed with mindfulness of acting together. What are the five ways to eliminate regret? It is thinking that the Blessed One has taught the Dharma with its basis and definite emergence, and that there is an opportunity to rise from downfall, thereby eliminating regret. It is thinking that due to ignorance, carelessness, many afflictions, and disrespect, the downfall occurs, and that from knowledge to disrespect has been abandoned, and from knowledge to respect has arisen correctly, thereby eliminating regret. It is thinking that in order to prevent downfall from occurring, the mind has arisen from a firm intention, thereby eliminating regret. It is thinking that one has confessed separately in front of those who practice the same as Brahma, the wise ones, thereby eliminating regret. It is thinking that I have renounced in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, and that whatever does not contradict the training and has no regret is good and excellent for me, because the Blessed One condemns in many ways the place that obscures the stream of regret, like an obstruction, and that whoever dwells in it and accepts it, but does not eliminate it, is not good and excellent for me, thereby eliminating regret. Through these means, the wise who are liberated from downfall are also pure in morality. The one who is called having definite morality is the one who does not abandon the basis of training. Furthermore, the meaning of definite is the meaning of non-attachment, because morality is not mixed with misconduct.

Moreover, discipline is completely pure. The so-called "having the discipline of the teachings" means not destroying the basis of learning. Also, even for the sake of life, not abandoning the basis of learning, this is also considered completely pure discipline. The so-called "constantly practicing" means not offering the basis of learning. Also, constantly practicing refers to acting with the body, this is also considered completely pure discipline. The so-called "constantly entering" means that after the basis of learning is broken, then acting according to the Dharma again. Also, constantly entering refers to speech, this is also considered completely pure discipline. Completely purely accepting the basis of learning, the so-called "learning" means completely guarding all the bases of learning. Also, regarding the meaning and words, completely receiving them without reversing them, and learning without increase or decrease, this is also considered completely pure discipline. After that, there are seven kinds of pure patience, as follows: When all harm is near and abiding, not being disturbed by relying on the ripening of one's own karma, this is called not shaking in the initial stage of combination. Not combining with harm such as scolding, rebuking, beating, threatening, and exposing shortcomings in order to answer, this is called not causing harm in the actual stage in the middle. Not holding a grudge, this is called not holding a grudge in the final stage of entering, thus, these three kinds of patience in the preparation stage, the actual stage, and the concluding stage are combined with the first of the ten kinds of pure patience previously mentioned. Not being completely afflicted when being whipped, this refers to enduring the harm caused by weak beings. Not dwelling in whipping, this refers to enduring the harm caused by servants when one becomes a lord. Not frightening with a fearful and confused mind, this refers to enduring the great harm caused by beings of extremely low status and caste, these three are combined with the three kinds of difficult patience previously mentioned. Not abandoning those who should be given benefit, this refers to regarding patience as a benefit, and oneself
