Thus it is. The afflictive thorough defilement and karmic thorough defilement, which are encompassed by the four types of craving, as previously stated, should be understood as the very nature of the truth of origination. When the Blessed One spoke in the manner of a mother's characteristic, saying that the actions and afflictions that produce suffering are the truth of origination, then why does the Sutra school say that only craving with attachment to the body is the truth of origination? Because it is the main one. Thus, the latent tendency of craving is what causes all afflictions to arise and what causes actions to arise, and the three entanglements of craving, namely the craving for arising, the craving with joyful desire, and the craving for manifest joy in this and that, universally arise and pervade things, and from its arising, many harms increase, therefore it is the main one. This is a detailed classification of the very nature of the truth of origination. The very nature of the truth of cessation is that which is encompassed by the cessation of suffering and all origination, the cessation of afflictions, and the cessation of aggregates. Then, what is the cessation of suffering and all origination? What is the cessation of afflictions? What is the cessation of aggregates? The so-called cessation of suffering and all origination refers to the separate cutting off of the seeds of the two by the noble path. The so-called cessation of afflictions refers to the realm of nirvana with remainder of aggregates, which is the exhaustion of craving and freedom from desire. The so-called cessation of aggregates refers to the realm of nirvana without remainder of aggregates, which is cessation and nirvana. The very nature of the truth of cessation can also be divided into twelve types, namely: characteristic, profound, imputed, ultimate, incomplete, complete, unadorned, adorned, with remainder, without remainder, superior, and different names.

So, what are its characteristics? It is suchness, as well as the path, and the non-arising of afflictions, that is, where there is cessation, and by what there is cessation, and what is ceased. What is profound? That cessation cannot be said to be other than the exhaustion of all conditioned things, nor can it be said to be not other than that. It cannot be said to be other and not other. Nor can it be said to be neither other nor not other. What is nominally established? Cessation by the worldly path causing the seeds to deteriorate. That is not Nirvana, but by its branch it is called Nirvana. What is the ultimate truth? It is the cessation by which the wisdom of the noble ones completely destroys the seeds. What is incomplete? It is the cessation of those who are still learning. What is complete? It is the cessation of those who are beyond learning. What is without adornment? It is the cessation of the Arhats who are liberated by wisdom. What is with adornment? It is the cessation of the Arhats who are liberated from both divisions, possessing the three knowledges and the six supernormal powers. What is with remainder? It is the cessation with the remainder of the aggregates. What is without remainder? It is the cessation without the remainder of the aggregates. What is particularly superior? It is the cessation encompassed by the non-abiding Nirvana of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. What are the synonyms? They are complete abandonment, and definite abandonment, and purification, and exhaustion, and freedom from desire, and cessation, and pacification, and extinction, and so forth. The detailed classification becomes twelve kinds, because it is the vessel for becoming the place. What is the path of joining? Whatever is the path of accumulation, that itself is also the path of joining, but there are those that are the path of joining but not the path of accumulation, that is, before accumulating merit, the four roots of virtue that are in accordance with the part of definite emergence, that is, the warmth, the peak, the forbearance in accordance with the truth, and the supreme of worldly dharmas. What is the path of purification? It is of three kinds, namely, the path of seeing, the path of cultivation, and the ultimate path. Regarding that
