Since it indicates sentient beings, it therefore indicates the object that is established as sentient beings. The so-called "object of its enjoyment" is indicated by the sense bases. Among these, there are twelve sense bases: the eye sense base, the form sense base, the ear sense base, the sound sense base, the nose sense base, the smell sense base, the tongue sense base, the taste sense base, the body sense base, the touch sense base, the mind sense base, and the dharma sense base. Their establishment is also indicated by sixteen aspects: nature, meaning, distinction, order, collection, and basis. Among these, what is the establishment of the nature of the sense bases? The nature of the eye sense base is that which has obtained the eye and has not abandoned it, and which is not immediately a phenomenon that obstructs the body. Just as with the eye sense base, the remaining sense bases should also be viewed in the same way from the aspect of nature. This is the establishment of the nature of the sense bases. Among these, what is the establishment of the meaning of the sense bases? There are two aspects: definitive word and necessity. Among these, what is the definitive word? Why is it called "sense base"? This is to indicate the meaning of the sense base, which is the meaning of the gate of arising of mind and mental phenomena, the meaning of cause, the meaning of method, the meaning of the object of collection, the meaning of basis, and the meaning of the place where they appear. What is the necessity? Why is the establishment of the sense bases fully explained? In order to fully explain the necessity of the establishment of the sense bases, that is, to indicate the three aspects of similar immediate, object, and dominant condition, therefore the sense bases are established. This is the establishment of the meaning of the sense bases. Among these, what is the establishment of the external classification of the sense bases? In short, it should be viewed from six aspects: the sense base of the gate of arising, that is, the sense bases of the eye and so on. The pure sense base refers to which sense bases of the individuals who abide in the lineage. The nature sense base refers to the sense base

Those twelve sources are those that arise from beginningless time, and those that are completely accomplished in later lives, the complete cessation of beings whether they abide in lineage or do not abide in lineage, and what is accomplished in the nature of dharma that is not complete cessation. The sources of complete cultivation are those that were previously completely cultivated with virtue and non-virtue, which are the sources of birth, decrease, difference, and attainment of cessation in samsara. The sources that produce fruit are those that produce fruit and then cease. The sources that do not produce fruit are those that do not produce fruit and either cease or do not cease. This is the detailed distinction of the sources. So, what is the detailed establishment of the order of the sources? In short, there are two types: the order of two and the order of six. The order of two is inner and outer. The inner is the place of consciousness, and because consciousness relies on that place in the sense of a single object, it is shown first. The outer is the object of focus, so it is shown after that. The order of six is from first showing the eye and form to finally showing the source of mind and dharma. That is to say, from the space between the non-abiding touch, the order of the six causes is shown in this way. The eye and form are the most common objects of experience, and because they are diverse and occur repeatedly, they are shown first. The others are also in that order, so they are shown in order after that, which is the first cause. Furthermore, it follows the language of the world. Worldly people first look at each other, so the eye and form are shown first. After that, they speak universally, so the ear and sound are shown. After that, they gather and eat, especially eating, so they first experience the nose and smell, so the nose and smell are shown. After that, the tongue and taste, so the tongue and taste are shown. After that, the sun sets and dusk falls, preparing for the night, relying on the touch of the mother's bed, etc., so the body and touch are shown, which is the second cause.
