There are eight kinds of detailed examination, namely, detailed examination of one's own nature, detailed examination of the cause of arising in this life, detailed examination of its cessation, detailed examination of the cause of arising in the next life, detailed examination of its cessation, detailed examination of the cause of arising from both, detailed examination of arising from both, and detailed examination of complete purification. These are: In the sutras, it is said that the Blessed One went alone to a solitary place and, while dwelling in true meditative absorption within, such a complete discernment of the mind arose in his mind: What is feeling? What is the arising of feeling? What is the cessation of feeling? What is the path that leads to the arising of feeling? What is the taste of feeling? What is the fault of feeling? What is the fault that arises from feeling? Then he thought to himself: Feeling is these three, namely, pleasure, pain, and neither pain nor pleasure. The arising of contact leads to the arising of feeling. The cessation of contact leads to the cessation of feeling. Whatever is manifest delight in feeling, manifest expression, excessive attachment, and excessive attachment and abiding, that is the path that leads to the arising of feeling. Whatever is no manifest delight in feeling, no manifest expression, no excessive attachment, and no abiding, that is the path that leads to the cessation of feeling. Whatever arises as pleasure and mental pleasure in dependence on feeling, that is the taste of feeling. Whatever is the impermanence, suffering, and changing nature of feeling, that is the fault of feeling. Whatever is the subduing of desire and attachment to feeling, the abandonment of desire and attachment, and the complete transcendence of desire and attachment, that is the definite liberation from feeling, he thought. Combine with what is said in order. The detailed classification of definite liberation is definite liberation from the five faculties of feeling, namely, definite liberation from the faculty of unpleasant mind is the first dhyana. Definite liberation from the faculty of suffering is the second dhyana. Definite liberation from the faculty of pleasant mind is the third dhyana. Definite liberation from the faculty of pleasure is

is the fourth dhyana. What necessarily arises from the power of equanimity is the realm without characteristics. Among these, what are the various classifications of the aggregate of perception? There are five aspects: object, characteristic, characteristic, perverted, unperverted, and severance. Among these, the various classifications of objects are grasping the object as a sign, and all the dharmas that are in accordance with its place. The various classifications of characteristics are the self-characteristic and the general characteristic. The self-characteristic has six aspects: small, becoming large, immeasurable, nothing at all, with signs, and without signs, which should be viewed as previously shown. The general characteristic is the characteristic of making everything known. The various classifications of perversion are: children who are not skilled, who have intelligence but do not apply their minds properly, who grasp at permanence in impermanence, at happiness in suffering, at purity in impurity, and at self in selflessness. This is perverted perception. That perverted perception becomes a perverted mind for householders, and for non-Buddhists among renunciants, it becomes a perverted view. Another way of saying it is that grasping at the sign in a perverted way with respect to those four objects is perverted perception. Whatever is the universal attachment of universally knowing the object in that way is perverted mind. Whatever is the manifest consciousness, desire, display, and establishment of knowing and especially attaching to the perverted object itself in that way is perverted view. The various classifications of non-perversion are: the wise are skilled, possessing intelligence and applying their minds properly, regarding impermanence as impermanence, suffering as suffering, impurity as impurity, and selflessness as selflessness, correctly grasping at the sign. That is their non-perverted perception, mind, and view. The various classifications of severance are five: Severance of object, severance of feeling, severance of terminology, wrong
