Having abandoned the (coarse) habitual tendencies, in the first bhumi, one abandons the habitual tendencies of the obscuration of knowledge, like those on the skin. Because of abandoning that, although one abandons all the habitual tendencies that are in accordance with the afflictions of the lower realms, because one has not abandoned the habitual tendencies that are in accordance with the afflictions that obstruct the pure tolerance of the non-arising of phenomena, it is said that the first and second bhumis are different. The first is the destruction of the correct companion. The second is the weak latent tendencies. These two are the habitual tendencies that are in accordance with the afflictions that obstruct the pure tolerance of the non-arising of phenomena, therefore, in order to abandon them on the eighth bhumi, although on the first bhumi one abandons the habitual tendencies of the obscuration of knowledge like those on the skin, there are still parts that have not been abandoned, that is its meaning. The so-called "habitual tendencies like those on the egg white" refers to abandoning the medium habitual tendencies of the obscuration of knowledge like those on the egg white on the eighth bhumi. Because of abandoning that, although one abandons all the habitual tendencies that are in accordance with the afflictions that obstruct the pure tolerance of the non-arising of phenomena, because one has not abandoned the subtle latent tendencies of the afflictions, it is said that there are three. The third is the subtle latent tendencies. This refers to the subtle latent tendencies from the eighth bhumi onwards. Therefore, in order to abandon them only when entering the state of the Tathagata from the tenth bhumi, although on the eighth bhumi one abandons the subtle habitual tendencies of the obscuration of knowledge like those on the egg white, there are still parts that have not been abandoned, that is its meaning. So, having abandoned the habitual tendencies that are in accordance with the obscuration of knowledge like those on the heartwood, are there still latent tendencies that are in accordance with the afflictions? In order to show that there are none, it is said that abandoning the habitual tendencies like those on the heartwood is the state of completely no latent tendencies, I have completely shown that it is the Buddha-bhumi. The so-called abandoning the habitual tendencies like those on the heartwood refers to the subtle obscuration of knowledge like those on the hair in the state of the Tathagata, which is also the wisdom that completely purifies all obscurations. Completely without latent tendencies.

The term "is the time" refers to the state of having no habitual obscurations of afflictions, which is the state of non-existence. Therefore, it is taught that this is the Buddha-ground. "World Honored One, how many incalculable eons will it take to abandon those evil destinies?" and so on, skillfully demonstrate the holding onto the causes of all afflictions as they are. Among them, "those evil destinies" refers to the evil destinies that are in accordance with the obscurations of afflictions, and the previously mentioned evil destinies that are in accordance with the aspects of the obscurations of knowledge. The term "incalculable eons" or "countless eons" has two aspects: small and large. Among them, "small countless eons" refers to one great eon, because the time is immeasurable when calculated by days and nights, months, and half-months, therefore it is called countless eons. "Many countless eons" refers to the way of counting great eons themselves, reaching sixty units of numbers, because there is no higher order of numbers in the world, it is called countless eons. "How many will it take to abandon?" refers to the fact that from the initial generation of Bodhicitta until attaining the supreme state and entering the state of the Tathagata, for all the abodes of Bodhisattvas, the time to abandon those evil destinies is said to be in two ways, small and large. "By three countless eons?" refers to three countless eons, which are the twelve abodes of Bodhisattvas: the abode of lineage, the abode of adhimukti-carya (practice based on aspiration), the abode of great joy, the abode of higher morality, the abode of higher mind, the abode of higher wisdom endowed with the aspects of enlightenment, the abode of higher wisdom of truth, the abode of higher wisdom endowed with dependent origination, the abode of signlessness with effort and exertion, the abode of signlessness without effort and spontaneously accomplished, the abode of perfect discernment, and the supreme abode.
