The respective knowledge, the accomplishment of the meaning of speaking and saying, and the reasons for being able to understand well, these are the reasons for establishing with reason. As it is said, with the three valid cognitions of direct perception (Sanskrit Devanāgarī pramāṇa, Romanized Sanskrit pramana, literal Chinese meaning: measure) and inference (Sanskrit Devanāgarī pramāṇa, Romanized Sanskrit pramana, literal Chinese meaning: measure) and trustworthy scriptural statement (Sanskrit Devanāgarī pramāṇa, Romanized Sanskrit pramana, literal Chinese meaning: measure), the causes and conditions for accomplishing and understanding well the three kinds of objects, namely the object of direct perception and the extremely hidden object, are knowing without error by eliminating the four kinds of distorted thoughts about direct perception, and knowing without error by eliminating the four kinds of distorted thoughts about inference, and showing that this is the omniscient one, and that the scriptural statement shown by him has no contradictory words and is without error, this is shown to be the reason for establishing with reason. These three valid cognitions are completely pure with the five characteristics previously shown, and are not completely pure with these seven characteristics that can become valid cognitions, thus showing that they cannot become valid cognitions. Among them, direct perception is completely pure by the very fact that it knows without error by eliminating the four kinds of distorted thoughts about direct perception as previously shown. The opposite of this is not completely pure, so here there is no special combination of its impurity with the seven characteristics. However, among the seven characteristics of not being completely pure here, all occurrences of the subject and the inverted object of non-realization from the first four should also be understood as direct perception not being completely pure as appropriate. Inference is inference for oneself and others from the sign of having three aspects, so it has many faults of reasoning and examples, and if these faults are not eliminated, in order to show that the characteristic of inference is not completely pure, it is mainly shown here. Here, the faults of the four impure characteristics of inference are shown by the first six impure characteristics. The characteristic of a trustworthy scriptural statement and the fault of non-conformity are shown here by the characteristic of showing that the scriptural statement is extremely impure. Among them, for inference for oneself and others from the sign of having three aspects, the three faults of reasoning mentioned earlier, namely unestablished, contradictory, and uncertain, among which the fault of unestablished is

Those who do not acknowledge the nature of being present in what is to be inferred, and for whom the property of the subject is not established, have faults such as the basis not being established, not being established for oneself, and not being established for others. But those who acknowledge the nature of being present in what is to be inferred, and for whom the property of the subject is established, do not have these faults. The fault of contradiction also exists in establishing the opposite of what is to be established from the means of proof, for example, saying, "Sound is permanent because it is produced," and "Sound is impermanent because it does not arise from effort." But those who do not establish the opposite of what is to be established from the means of proof do not have these faults. Therefore, here the Bhagavan did not teach about the faults of being unestablished and contradictory. If you want to know, then you should understand from the scriptures and other valid cognitions. Here, he mainly taught about the pseudo-reason due to the fault of uncertainty and the pseudo-example due to the fault of the example. Because the establishment of these two is uncertain, it shows that the inference is not completely pure. Among them, the pseudo-reason due to the fault of uncertainty is of four types: the uncertainty that exists in one part of the dissimilar side, the uncertainty that exists in one part of the similar side, the common uncertainty, and the uncommon uncertainty, which correspond to the four characteristics of complete purity and their order. What is the uncertainty that exists in one part of the dissimilar side? For example, those who establish that sound arises from effort say in the words of their argument: "Sound arises from effort because it is impermanent. Whatever is impermanent arises from effort, like a pot and so on, which is a similar example. Whatever is permanent does not arise from effort, like space, lightning, and forest flowers, which are dissimilar examples." Thus, all inferences infer the meaning of oneself and others from a sign that has three characteristics, so here too, it is necessary to combine the three certain characteristics of being present in what is to be inferred, being present in the similar side, and not being present in the dissimilar side. Here, being present in what is to be inferred,
