When the object to be inferred is sentient beings' happiness and suffering, and the property of the subject to be proven is that they abide in virtue and non-virtue due to the sign of the result, which is perceived directly, then the property to be proven, virtue and non-virtue, is not wasted. That which is not perceived directly is inferred without being wasted. The example of similar dharma is shown as it is said. How is it applied? Whatever action abides in virtue and non-virtue, which is perceived directly, that action is not wasted in virtue and non-virtue. For example, the lack of independence, which is known to all the world, is applied closely to internal and external phenomena. And also, prosperity and decline, which are known to all the world, are applied closely to external things. It should be applied like this. Applying the lack of independence closely is an example of establishing selflessness. Those who lack independence at that time are empty of the owner's own nature. Also, in external things, because it depends on the actions of individuals, it establishes that prosperity and decline of crops, etc., are not wasted. Whoever has lack of independence and prosperity and decline is selfless and has karma. Whoever's actions abide in virtue and non-virtue, which is perceived directly, that action is not wasted in virtue and non-virtue. Therefore, the object to be inferred, sentient beings' happiness and suffering, the property of the subject to be proven, abiding in virtue and non-virtue due to the sign of the result, which is perceived directly, the property to be proven, the actions of virtue and non-virtue are not wasted, that which is not perceived directly, the example of similar dharma is established by inferring without wasting. Whatever is similar to that is the third aspect of what is to be inferred. The nature of the example of similar dharma for inference for oneself and for the sake of others, as shown before, other similar things should also be applied as appropriate. Also, from non-perception, inferring the non-existence of things, and from nature, inferring impermanence, etc., and from the result, inferring the cause, in all places also.

Through similar examples, inference is made for the sake of oneself and others. Regarding this, from the invisible, one infers the non-existence of things. For the object to be inferred, in some specific place where there is no pot, as the dharma of the side to be established, the invisible sign, i.e., the absence of a pot, is manifestly visible. From this, the dharma to be established, i.e., the non-existence of things, is manifestly invisible. From this, one infers the non-existence of things. The so-called similar example is: in a certain place, the pot, which is the object of visibility, is invisible, that is, there is no pot, like empty space. From nature, one infers impermanence, etc. For the object to be inferred, i.e., sound, as the dharma of the side to be established, the sign of nature, i.e., because it is produced, is manifestly visible. From this, the dharma to be established, i.e., impermanence itself, is manifestly invisible. From this, one infers impermanence itself. The similar example is: whatever is produced is impermanent, like a pot. From the result, one infers the cause. For the object to be inferred, i.e., a certain place, in a place where smoke rises, as the dharma of the side to be established, the sign of the result, i.e., rising smoke, is manifestly visible. From this, the dharma to be established, i.e., fire, is manifestly invisible. From this, one infers existence itself. The similar example is: wherever smoke rises, there is fire, like a kitchen. Thus, for the object to be inferred, the aspect of existence itself is shown. In the aspect that corresponds to this, through the aspect of existence itself, such similar examples are combined. That is, one should recognize that this is the characteristic of one's own wisdom, the close combination of examples. Thus combined, the meaning of the words is combined as explained above. After this, in order to show that both direct perception and inference are fully measured by the characteristic of complete burning, thus, that is the characteristic of being directly visible, and abiding in that, is the characteristic of being directly visible, and the example of one's own kind, is the close combination of
