The meaning of manifestation is encompassed by its own nature. What is meant by "the meaning of explanation"? The two types of inference, inference for oneself and inference for others, are explained by the Buddha Bhagavan or other speakers. The meaning is the object of explanation, the object of inference, encompassed by the common characteristic of hidden meanings. What is meant by "the meaning of speech"? The two reliable sources of knowledge, that the teacher is omniscient, and that the teachings he taught are without contradiction, are determined to be spoken by the omniscient one. The meaning is the object of speech, the object of reliable sources of knowledge, encompassed by the ultimate and common characteristics of extremely hidden meanings. "To establish and to understand well" means that these three valid cognitions are only as they are, and not otherwise, and are well established by the validity of the three valid cognitions. "To understand well" means that those meanings should be understood as they are, not reversed by others, as the true meaning. What are the causes and what are the conditions? What are the causes and conditions for establishing and understanding well the three meanings of these three valid cognitions? The cause and condition for establishing and understanding well the meaning of direct perception is to know without error by eliminating the four types of misperception of direct perception. What are the four types of misperception? Misperception of number, misperception of self-nature, misperception of object, and misperception of result. Among them, misperception of number is the perception that some say there is one valid cognition, some say three, some say four, and some say six. What eliminates that? By saying that "correct knowledge is of two types, direct perception and inference," the four types of direct perception are shown: sense consciousness, mental consciousness, self-awareness, and yogic consciousness. Misperception of self-nature is like this: some say direct perception is with conceptualization, and some say it is without conceptualization.

It is a reversed discrimination. So, what dispels it? The statement "Direct perception is free from discrimination and without error" shows that the nature of direct perception is without discrimination and without error. The reversed discrimination regarding the object is like this: Some say that the object of direct perception is only its own characteristic; the object of inference is only the common characteristic, like this, while others say it differently. So, what dispels it? The statement "The object of direct perception is its own characteristic" shows that the object of the valid direct perception should be regarded as only its own characteristic, not the common characteristic. Because the common characteristic is without substance, and in direct perception, it is because the self-nature of the substance is observed. The reversed discrimination regarding the result is like this: Some admit that the valid cognition and the result are different, while others admit that they are not different. So, what dispels it? The statement "The consciousness of direct perception is the result of valid cognition" shows that the consciousness of direct perception is the result of valid cognition, and there is no result of valid cognition outside of direct perception. In this way, by dispelling these four kinds of reversed discrimination, in all aspects, the self-nature of the correct knowledge that is not mistaken by direct perception is shown, which is the reason established by the proof of direct perception. The function of inference is to accomplish the meaning, and in order to understand its cause and condition well, it is also necessary to dispel the four kinds of reversed discrimination for inference, so as to obtain correct knowledge, just like the reversed discrimination of quantity mentioned earlier. So, what is the dispelling of this? The statement "There are two kinds of correct knowledge, namely direct perception and inference" shows these two kinds of inference, namely inference for oneself and inference for others. Among them, what can make oneself realize is for oneself, and what can make others understand is for others, and should be understood in this way. The reversed discrimination of self-nature is like this: Some people think that the nature of inference is different from the reason with three aspects. So, what dispels it? Inference itself has three aspects
