Whatever action is to be accomplished must be done. As long as things exist, the act of doing exists. For example, once trees, vines, and so on have grown, the vines perform the work of binding, the trunks perform the work of pillars, the flowers perform the work of decoration, the creepers perform the work of twining, and the fruits perform the work of hanging. Similarly, in the noble Dharma, the actions of each level benefit sentient beings through different means, placing them on their respective paths, and so on. Whatever is determined to be the cause of any Dharma, each produces its respective result. The six faculties, together with consciousness, engage in their respective determined objects. Birds and so on fly, fish and so on swim, and livestock and so on run. In this way, each thing does what is appropriate according to its ability. What are the causes and what are the conditions? These are the fundamental parts that belong to what is being done, namely the ten causes and four conditions mentioned above. Thus, the explanation of the actions of all Dharmas is the reasoning of action. What is the characteristic of reasoning that establishes through validity? The respective knowledge and speech, and the accomplishment of the meaning of what is said, and what are the causes and what are the conditions for understanding well, that is the reasoning that establishes through validity. The so-called reasoning that establishes through validity refers to the establishment of their respective meanings through the validity of the three valid cognitions: direct perception, inference, and reliable testimony. The meaning of these three valid cognitions—direct perception, inference, and reliable testimony—is the meaning of respective knowledge, and speech, and the meaning of what is said, and so on, to be connected in order. These are also the meaning of direct perception, the hidden meaning, and the extremely hidden meaning, in order. Among them, regarding the so-called respective meanings, what is the respective knowledge? The four valid cognitions of direct perception, namely sense consciousness, mental consciousness, self-awareness, and the knowledge of yogis, are the respective knowledge. The so-called meaning is the object of the respective knowledge, namely the object of direct perception.
