That is, not confusing, meaning that the nature of what is imputed is not falsely established, and that it is the nature of other-powered and perfectly established, not denying, and the nature is not confused but seen as separate. If the self-nature of other-powered and the self-nature of perfectly established are also seen as separate by self-nature, meaning many self-natures, those two arising self-naturelessness, and ultimate self-naturelessness, are seen as separate by self-naturelessness. The word 'separate' is as before. Specifically, other-powered exists in the relative without denial, and perfectly established exists in the ultimate without denial, and the nature is not confused but seen as separate. Therefore, it is said that the three self-naturelessnesses are not established, meaning that if seen in this way, then at that time it is fully known by the aspect of cultivation, and its result is non-effort, so also for the sake of those, the three self-naturelessnesses are not established, but those do not see it in this way, so for the sake of those, the three self-naturelessnesses are established, which should be connected with the following text. How do they not see the three self-natures as separate by self-nature? Therefore, in order to show that meaning, it is said that sentient beings falsely establish the nature of what is imputed on the nature of other-powered and perfectly established, and so on. Among them, falsely establishing the nature of what is imputed on the nature of other-powered and perfectly established is the synonymous term for saying that it is thus designated. Following the designation of terms on the nature of the nature of what is imputed means designating with words. The mind that is perfumed by the designation of terms means the alaya-consciousness that is perfumed by the habitual tendencies of what is imputed. Following the connection means the awakening of habitual tendencies. By the dormant, it means the cause of delusion abiding in self-nature. Manifestation is a synonymous term for discrimination. Arising means making a connection in the existence of rebirth. The pervasive defilements of affliction, action, and birth.

That which is called 'understanding' is encompassed by arising according to reason. It is because it does not transcend samsara. Therefore, they did not see the three natures as being different by nature, as was declared. The meaning of the words that briefly indicate the distinctions of practice has been explained. After that, the meaning of the words that extensively explain the distinctions of practice of the individuals who engage in it will be explained. The so-called 'extensive explanation of the distinctions of practice' refers to the extensive explanation of the distinctions of practice whereby sentient beings, not seeing the three natures as distinct, therefore, relying on the Tathagata's designation of the three non-natures, sentient beings engage in practices that are in accordance with the aspects of purification. This also has three bases, namely, having three bases: having the base of the teachings, having the base of reasoning, and having the base of conditions. These are the teachings on the distinctions of practice that are in accordance with the aspects of purification. Among them, having the base of the teachings is taught from 'Truly, for those sentient beings, from the very beginning, the roots of virtue have not arisen' to 'The various lineages of sentient beings are also not non-existent.' Having the base of lineage is taught from 'Truly, the individual of the Hearer lineage, the one who is solely in the realm of peace' to 'Therefore, he is called the one who is solely in the realm of peace.' Having the base of conditions is taught from 'Whatever Hearer completely transforms into Bodhi, I have shown that to be a nominal Bodhisattva' to 'Therefore, the Tathagata designates him as a Hearer lineage.' Among them, first, the meaning of the words of the teaching on the distinctions of practice that have the base of the teachings will be explained. The so-called 'distinctions of practice that have the base of the teachings' refers to the fact that the first sentient beings, relying on the foundation of the Tathagata's teachings, engage in the path that is in accordance with the aspects of purification. Therefore, in terms of the teachings, 'Truly, for those sentient beings,'

Thus and so on were spoken. Here, five characteristics of the initial practitioner are shown: lineage not truly accomplished, obscurations not completely purified, continuum not fully matured, mind not generated, and wisdom not fully matured. Among these, 'lineage not truly accomplished' indicates not generating roots of virtue from the very beginning. There are two types of lineage: naturally abiding lineage and truly accomplished lineage. Among these, naturally abiding lineage refers to the distinction of the six sense sources, passed down from beginningless time, which is the attainment of the nature of reality. This does not need to be truly accomplished, as all sentient beings naturally possess it. Truly accomplished lineage refers to what is attained from previously habituating roots of virtue. This cannot be attained until it is truly accomplished, and it can be attained if it is truly accomplished. Therefore, 'lineage not truly accomplished' here refers to the truly accomplished lineage not being truly accomplished. So, how can one know a Bodhisattva who abides in that lineage, and what signs can others use to recognize that this is a Bodhisattva? Because they do not possess the signs of the lineage of the Bodhisattva's perfections, it is said that they have not generated roots of virtue from the very beginning. A detailed classification of this lineage will be explained later when discussing possessing the basis of lineage. 'Obscurations not completely purified' indicates obscurations not completely purified. That is, even if the Bodhisattva's lineage has been established in the stage of truly accomplishing the lineage, as long as they have not completely eliminated the four close afflictions that are incompatible with white Dharma, or have not become one with close afflictions, they will naturally possess the virtuous Dharma of the signs of the Bodhisattva's perfections. When they become one with close afflictions, they will not appear to those white Dharmas, and sometimes they will be born in the lower realms, meaning they have not separated from those four close afflictions and are with white Dharma.
