It is said that the words "devoid of own-being" were taught. The Blessed One's statement that "all phenomena are devoid of own-being" is based on those three own-beings, and is spoken with the intention of the three devoid of own-being of those, so it is not without a basis. This is a concluding word. The meaning of the words of the three devoid of own-being will be shown below. This is taught with the intention of the hidden meaning of the very devoid of own-being, which is the antidote to wasting (time and energy) by wrongly thinking that it is without a basis. After that, the meaning of the words that show the antidote to wasting due to wrong understanding without intention will be explained. What is called wasting due to wrong understanding without intention is the wrong understanding without intention that arises because of completely abandoning the intention from the three types of devoid of own-being. What is that like? The Blessed One's statement that "all phenomena are devoid of own-being" is not intended to be based on only one devoid of own-being, but is spoken with the intention of the three devoid of own-being, namely the devoid of own-being of characteristics, the devoid of own-being of arising, and the devoid of own-being of ultimate reality, so it is intentional. If one does not understand it in this way and thinks that it is not based on the three devoid of own-being, then a wrong understanding without intention arises. Therefore, one will decline and waste (time and energy) because of this, so in order to counteract it, it is said, "What is the devoid of own-being of the characteristics of phenomena for that ultimate, true, noble one?" etc. The meaning here is that in the Blessed One's statement that "all phenomena are devoid of own-being," "all phenomena" refers to those three characteristics. "Devoid of own-being" refers to those three devoid of own-being. Moreover, not all characteristics are devoid of own-being by all devoid of own-being, but the imputed characteristic is a characteristic that is established by names and concepts, not established by its own characteristic, so it is completely non-existent in both truths, therefore it is devoid of own-being by the devoid of own-being of characteristics. The dependent characteristic arises from the power of other conditions, not self-
