He also bestowed names and so on. Since the Blessed One also spoke of all dharmas being without intrinsic nature, etc., then, based on what intention did the Blessed One speak of all dharmas being without intrinsic nature, etc.? Please, Blessed One, explain to me in detail the meaning of what you have said. This is to be taken as a question. The other meanings of the words in these passages should be understood as explained in the previous chapter on the Noble Subhuti. The meaning of the words of the request, etc., has been explained. Next, the meaning of the words of the extensive explanation, etc., will be explained. The so-called "extensive explanation" refers to the extensive explanation by the Blessed One of the meaning of the absence of intrinsic nature of all dharmas after such a request. Therefore, in order to show this, the Blessed One said, "O Real and True Noble One, it is good, good that the virtuous and proper understanding has arisen in your mind!" etc. Here, this extensive explanation reveals three meanings: it reveals the hidden meaning of the absence of intrinsic nature; it reveals the distinction of the individuals who practice this meaning; and it reveals the greatness of the sutra section. Among them, the revelation of the hidden meaning of the absence of intrinsic nature is: O Real and True Noble One, therefore listen, and I will explain to you what I meant when I said that all dharmas are without intrinsic nature, etc., from "naturally completely beyond sorrow" to "thus it is taught." The distinction of the individuals who practice this meaning is revealed: O Real and True Noble One, I, in the realm of sentient beings, from "O Real and True Noble One, it is just so, not otherwise, hold it in this way" as spoken. The greatness of the sutra section is revealed: from "Then, the Bodhisattva, the Real and True Noble One, again reported to the Blessed One in this way," etc., all the remaining scriptures are revealed. Among them, first, the meaning of the words of revealing the hidden meaning of the absence of intrinsic nature, etc., will be explained. The so-called "revealing the hidden meaning of the absence of intrinsic nature" refers to the antidote to the four types of inverted thoughts, namely, the absence of

If these three kinds of non-self-nature are not explained, then the meaning of explaining non-self-nature in an obscure way will be undermined by four kinds of inverted views. In order to counteract these, the three kinds of non-self-nature are explained. These four kinds of inverted views are: inverted views of being without a basis, inverted views of being without intention, inverted views of being without meaning, and inverted views of being without dependence. Among them, in order to counteract the destruction caused by inverted views of being without a basis, it is explained that "Truly noble, I have explained the three kinds of non-self-nature of all phenomena," and so on. In order to counteract the destruction caused by inverted views of being without intention, it is explained that "Truly noble, what is the characteristic non-self-nature of all phenomena?" and so on. In order to counteract the destruction caused by inverted views of being without meaning, it is explained that "Truly noble, for example, just like a flower in the sky," and so on. In order to counteract the destruction caused by inverted views of being without dependence, it is explained that "Truly noble, considering the characteristic non-self-nature," and so on. First, the meaning of the words that counteract the destruction caused by inverted views of being without a basis will be explained. The so-called "destruction caused by inverted views of being without a basis" refers to the inverted views of being without a basis that arise from not relying on the three kinds of self-nature. What is this like? The Blessed One's statement that "all phenomena are without self-nature" is because it is said relying on the three kinds of self-nature—the self-nature of complete imputation, the self-nature of dependence on others, and the self-nature of perfect accomplishment—so it has a basis. If this is not understood, and it is thought that it is said without relying on the three kinds of self-nature, this is an inverted view of being without a basis. This will also lead to great regression and destruction, therefore, in order to counteract it, truly noble, I have explained the three kinds of non-self-nature of all phenomena, namely, considering the characteristic non-self-nature, the non-self-nature of arising, and the ultimate non-self-nature, all phenomena.
