Sa bya, that is to say, this itself is an example of meaning. The so-called "showing the characteristics of the Dharma that has the necessity of metaphor" refers to the showing of the characteristics of the Dharma of parikalpita that is in accordance with the meaning of the metaphor. Therefore, in order to show it, (the sutra) says: "Source of merit, for example, for the eyes of a person with cataracts, the fault of cataracts arising in the eyes, the nature of parikalpita should be viewed in that way." Here, the cause is used to show the effect. For example, the fault of cataracts arising in the eyes is the cause of confusion, and the confusion caused by that cause is the effect. Similarly, in beginningless time, the habit of being attached to things that appear is the cause of confusing the mind. It exists suddenly as the aspect of the Alaya consciousness. This is shown here as similar to the fault of cataracts arising in the eyes, which is the cause of superimposition. Because of that cause, names and concepts are applied to things in the form of self-nature or difference, and they suddenly exist on things, which is the effect. These two are similar to the nature of parikalpita, but the effect is not directly shown here. In order to understand through the cause, it is said that the effect is shown through the cause. This is explained as the showing of the nature of parikalpita that has the necessity of a meaningful metaphor. After that, the meaning of the words of the showing of the characteristics of the Dharma that has the necessity of external metaphor will be explained. The so-called external metaphor refers to the cause of the fault of cataracts arising in the inner eyes, which produces the effect of the appearance of external signs. This itself is a metaphor. The so-called "showing the characteristics of the Dharma that has the necessity of that metaphor" refers to the showing of the nature of the Dharma of paratantra that is in accordance with the meaning of that metaphor. Therefore, in order to show it, (the sutra) says: "Source of merit, for example, for that itself, the sign of cataracts, the appearance of signs such as tangled hair, the nature of paratantra should be viewed in that way." For example, in whose eyes the cataract, which is the cause of confusing the eyes, exists, for him, the signs of tangled hair and so on appear. Similarly, the habit of being attached to things that appear

Whatever factors cause the mind to be confused, For whomsoever the nature of imputation exists in their continuum, for them, the appearance of the result, such as forms and various confused things, that is the nature of other-powered. Previously, when discussing imputation, the statement "the cause shows the result" refers to the cause of confusion, whether it is the nature or the distinction, the name or the designation, both are imputation. This result, which appears as a confused thing, is other-powered. That is possessing the necessity of an external analogy, it is showing the nature of other-powered. After that, the meaning of the words showing the nature of the Dharma possessing the necessity of an internal analogy will be explained. Among them, the so-called internal analogy refers to the inner eye being completely pure, its object being without error, that is the analogy. The so-called showing the nature of the Dharma possessing the necessity of that analogy refers to showing the nature of the Dharma that is in accordance with the meaning of that analogy and is completely established. Therefore, in order to show it, it is said: The source of qualities is like this, for example, if someone's own eyes are completely pure and free from the fault of cataracts, then, for that eye, its own object, that is, the object without error, should be regarded as the completely established nature. For example, just as the eye free from the fault of cataracts, its unconfused object is without error, the place of transformation that is free from the factors that cause the mind to be confused, that is, the nature of imputation, that itself is the completely established nature. That is possessing the necessity of an internal analogy, it is showing the completely established nature. After that, the necessity of the analogy of the unequal ground, and the meaning of the words possessing the nature of the Dharma will be explained. Among them, the so-called analogy of the unequal ground refers to crystal and pigments, etc., because they are not counted as sentient beings, so it is the external thing itself as an analogy. The so-called showing the nature of the Dharma possessing the necessity of that analogy refers to showing the nature of the three Dharmas of imputation, other-powered, and perfect establishment that are in accordance with the meaning of that analogy.
