Thus have I heard. Here, "all dharmas" refers to dharmas without characteristics, as well as dharmas with the characteristics of complete affliction, and dharmas with the characteristics of complete purification. "Characteristic" refers to what represents the meaning of those dharmas that are the basis of the characteristic, namely, the three characteristics of the completely imputed, the other-powered, and the thoroughly established. "Wise" means knowing those three characteristics through the means of scripture, without adding or denying anything. Repeating twice is to show the meaning of fame. "Thus and so forth" refers to the concluding words in those sutras, such as "Thus it is said." In what way does a bodhisattva become wise in the characteristics of all dharmas? This is asking in what way, through what scripture, does one become wise. "Scripture" means completely knowing through the aspect of hearing. Becoming wise through this means is to not add to the completely imputed, and to not deny the other-powered and the thoroughly established. In what way does one add? This is asking in what way, through what realization, does one become wise. "Realization" means completely knowing the aspect of meditation, and its result of non-action. Becoming wise through this means is to thoroughly know the dharmas without characteristics as they truly are, thereby completely abandoning the dharmas with the characteristics of complete affliction, and by obtaining the dharma through the purified characteristic, one becomes wise. The meaning of the words of the complete inquiry, and so forth, has been explained. Next, the meaning of the words of the extensive explanation, and so forth, will be explained. "Extensive explanation" refers to what the Blessed One extensively explained about the wisdom of the characteristics of all dharmas after such a complete inquiry. Therefore, in order to show this, the Blessed One said, "Source of Qualities, you are thus," and so forth. Here, this extensive explanation shows the teaching and explanation of the wisdom of the characteristics of all dharmas in two ways. Among them, the teaching is that one must know the characteristics of all dharmas through the means of scripture and realization, and even know the absence of characteristics as the absence of characteristics, which is to briefly show the three characteristics.

Having established the authority of [the three natures], the three characteristics of the dharmas that are the source of qualities are these. What are the three? They are the completely imputed nature, the dependent nature, and the thoroughly established nature. So it is said. Among them, the so-called completely imputed nature refers to the non-veridical complete imputation of the minds and mental factors of the three realms, the self-nature of the dependent and thoroughly established, or specifically, whatever is completely imputed, name and designation, and designation speech, is the completely imputed nature. This refers to the non-veridical complete imputation of the minds and mental factors of the three realms, which is merely self-nature or specific complete imputation. It is neither the self-nature of the apprehended nor the self-nature of the apprehender, so it is called the completely imputed nature. Like a flower in the sky, because of the absence of self-nature, it is completely non-existent in both conventional and ultimate truth. One should understand it as such. The so-called dependent nature refers to the self-nature of internal and external things, whatever arises dependently on other conditions. This refers to the self-nature of the apprehended and apprehender, which arises from the power of causes and conditions other factors, so it is called the dependent nature. Like an illusion, because of the absence of self-nature in arising, and because of the absence of ultimate self-nature, it exists in conventional truth. One should understand it as such. The so-called thoroughly established nature refers to the transformation of the basis and the true wisdom that is completely distinguished by the suchness of things, and the suchness. This refers to the fact that on the dependent nature, there is no manifestation of clinging to the completely imputed nature, the non-veridical complete imputation is transformed into true wisdom, and its object, the suchness of the dependent things, the completely pure object is the thoroughly established nature, so it is called the thoroughly established nature. Like the sky, because of the absence of ultimate self-nature, it is without self-nature and exists in ultimate truth. One should understand it as such. Thus, the three characteristics of the dharmas are briefly explained, which is
