When it (referring to eye consciousness) has passed, and has individually recognized various forms, and has ceased together with the object, then merely when mind consciousness arises in the next moment, the previous eye, eye consciousness, and the object of the eye have already ceased. Therefore, since the so-called "object of the eye" has no self-characteristic whatsoever, the mind consciousness that arises in the next moment cannot be called as aiming at the object of the eye. It does not enter into the object of the eye, but rather it enters into the general characteristic of the object of the eye after it has ceased. If that is the case, then that is the searching or definitive mind consciousness aiming at the general characteristic of other objects, which is indisputable. If that is so, then the simultaneously arising basis - the eye sense, the object - form, and the eye consciousness arising with it, and the mind consciousness arising from the closely abiding condition arising with it, and the friend - the five pervasive mental factors, etc., arising and possessing similar characteristics together with it, should be understood as arising simultaneously in a single moment. Such an explanation is a correct explanation of the way the mind functions in this context of distinguishing the definitive meaning of the Great Vehicle. Some sutras of provisional meaning and other treatises of the Hearer schools explain it in other ways, but they are intended to tame those with childish intelligence, so one should not follow them. Some explanations in the treatises of some people of this and other schools are merely dry speculation, so one should not regard them and this treatise as false. The one with vast intelligence, that the ear, nose, tongue, body, and tangible objects, relying on them, the body consciousness associated with consciousness arises, means that the simultaneously arising basis, object, and nature of the remaining four (ear consciousness, etc.) have been explained, and should be understood and applied as before. The body consciousness follows it simultaneously, at the same time, with the same scope of activity, and the discriminating mind consciousness also arises, which means that the remaining four (ear consciousness, etc.) and the discriminating mind consciousness together have been explained.

The way of entering by objects is distinguished, and the way of entering because one condition itself is one is distinguished, and the way of entering by object is distinguished, and the way of entering by being a friend and the same is distinguished, and the nature of the conceptual mind consciousness is shown by the way of entering with the nature of being together with them. It should be understood that they also arise in the same instant without before and after, and combine appropriately as before. If one eye consciousness arises once, then the conceptual mind consciousness, which is the same as the eye consciousness and the object, also arises only once. If two, three, or four aggregates of consciousness arise once, or all five arise once, then there, the conceptual mind consciousness, which is the same as the object of these five aggregates of consciousness, also arises only once. By the statement "The consciousness arising from proximity, which focuses on the self-characteristic of its own and others' objects, arises together with the conditions of the five sense consciousnesses, either one, two, or up to five," the manner of its arising is shown. And what is that like? The five sense consciousnesses depend on the conditions of external objects, so the order and time of arising are uncertain; whichever condition is close arises, and the others do not arise. The conditions are also not fixed; sometimes one condition is close, and sometimes two, three, four, or five conditions are close at the same time. Thus, if one condition is close, then whichever condition is close, only that consciousness arises depending on its own condition. If two, three, four, or five conditions are close at the same time, then all five of the five sense consciousnesses arise at the same moment depending on their respective conditions. These five sense consciousnesses focus on the self-characteristic of their respective objects, and the eye consciousness also, like the condition of the form of the object, sometimes for one object of form,
