All consciousnesses arise solely from dependence. Because they enter the realm of direct perception, those that have the same object and are compatible with the consciousness arising from dependence, therefore, the consciousness arising from dependence, even if it is the dependent cause of one of the five consciousnesses, arises simultaneously with one consciousness. Even if it is the dependent cause of all five consciousnesses, it arises simultaneously only with all five consciousnesses at the same time. Therefore, it is said in the scriptures: "One consciousness can simultaneously discriminate one object, or two objects, or very many objects, as well as its own object and the objects of others. Therefore, the activity of that consciousness is called inconceivable." This also refers to this consciousness arising from dependence, and not to the two, seeking and ascertainment. Because those two cannot enter their own self-character, and also in the general character, they occur at different times. Thus, there is no contradiction in this consciousness arising from dependence simultaneously grasping the different characteristics included in the nature of its own and others' objects. And it is not the case that two, three, or many minds of the same kind arise simultaneously, since it is only one entity of consciousness. For example, just as the eye consciousness, with respect to one object, according to the conditions of appearance, sometimes grasps one non-diverse homogeneous aspect of form, and sometimes grasps many diverse appearances simultaneously. There is no contradiction in this, and just as it is only one entity of consciousness, it is not the case that two minds of the same kind arise simultaneously. Among them, first, when the mind arising from dependence arises, as friends, only the five pervasive mental factors that arise simultaneously with it and have the same characteristics are present. Other factors such as desire do not arise. Why is that? Because at that time, there is no differentiation of the object, so they have no object. At that time, the consciousness arising from dependence is the object

If there is no distinction, why is it called conceptualization? That is because at that time the part of thought is less, so for that consciousness that recognizes with any object, that aspect that generates the aspect of the object itself, that consciousness that recognizes with its own nature arises, and because it does not distinguish the object, it is a direct perceiver of the object. But it is also not like eye consciousness and others, which are not conceptual by nature. And immediately after that, the continuum of the mind consciousness of the seeker and the determiner arises, those with coarse conceptualization, and those that think about the general characteristics of the object, therefore it is called conceptualization. When the mind of the seeker arises, then the five pervasive mental factors that are companions, and also desire will arise, because desire arises only from the desired object. And for the seeker, also with the object of the consciousness arising from proximity, the past object that recognizes its own characteristics separately, searches in a way that makes the general characteristics clear, therefore that itself is the object of desire. At that time, faith and other remaining mental factors do not arise, because at that time the object is uncertain, therefore there are no objects for those. When the determined mind arises, then the five pervasive mental factors that are companions themselves, and also the mental factors, those that each generate multiple aspects for one object, also arise as their respective objects and aspects of conditions. From the determined mind onwards, because the object has been distinguished, it is completely afflicted or completely purified in accordance with one's own attachment and so on, or faith and so on, and immediately after that, the five sense consciousnesses generate good or bad karma, therefore the five sense consciousnesses and so on, which are the result of the same cause arising from that cause, will also generate good or bad causes, but not controlled by one's own conceptualization. Thus, in the first moment, the consciousness arising from proximity arises focusing on the nature of its own object, and the five sense consciousnesses focus on other
