Proximity-abiding arising, feeling, and determination. Among these, proximity-abiding arising refers to the first moment, relying on the object of proximity-abiding, arising together with the five sense consciousnesses, focusing on its own characteristic. Feeling refers to the second moment, following the previous aspect, focusing on the general characteristic. Determination refers to the third moment, making a determination about the object, focusing on the general characteristic. Here, it should be understood as proximity-abiding arising. Explaining their nature as it is, among them, the so-called proximity-abiding arising refers to the discriminating mind consciousness arising from the cause of arising proximity-abiding, which only focuses on its own characteristic, and does not focus on the general characteristic. When focusing on its own characteristic, also like the cause and condition, sometimes it only abides on the own characteristic of its own object. Sometimes it simultaneously focuses on the own characteristic of both its own and others' objects. Among these, temporarily focusing on the own characteristic of its own object, whether in the formless realm or the form realm, in the state where the five sense consciousnesses have not become the proximity-abiding of other objects, its own object, that is, whichever of the seven dharma realms has become the proximity-abiding, its own characteristic, that is, that which is encompassed by object, time, and nature, arises simultaneously with one moment, and without making distinctions about that object, but only focusing on its meaning, that is the nature of the image of the object. Simultaneously focusing on the own characteristic of both its own and others' objects refers to, like the cause and condition of one's own object and the objects of the five sense consciousnesses, among one object or two objects or up to five objects, whichever one or two or five become the proximity-abiding, while focusing on the proximity-abiding of one's own object, also focusing on the objects of the five senses, that is, whichever of the five sense faculties' objects has become the proximity-abiding, focusing on that faculty, or among the five faculties, and the five sense consciousnesses arising with it.

Moreover, consciousness is that which, as the object of whatever is the proximate condition, whether it is a single or all five consciousnesses' object, as well as the faculties and those consciousnesses, arises simultaneously in the first moment, and does not discriminate that object, but only focuses on the meaning of its own characteristic, which is also the nature of the image of the object. The five sense consciousnesses that arise simultaneously with the consciousness arising from the proximate condition are also called arising from the proximate condition, because they also arise from the proximate condition of the causes of arising, such as the faculties and that object, and arising attention. They also do not focus on the general characteristic, but focus on the individual characteristic of their respective objects, without discriminating them, but only focus on the meaning, which is the nature of the image of the object. In particular, their nature is non-conceptual. What is called seeking is like this, whether in the first moment, the consciousness arising from the proximate condition arises focusing on the individual characteristic of its own object, or focusing on the object of the five sense consciousnesses, arising simultaneously with the five sense consciousnesses, only arising in the second moment after its arising, and the past object that the consciousness previously arising from the proximate condition focused on the individual characteristic of its own object, or the past object that the five sense consciousnesses focused on another object, it completely seeks in a way that can clearly manifest the general characteristic of that past object whose individual characteristic meaning is known separately, that is, it is connected with the conceptualization of the object, and is consistent with the recollection of the object's sign. When the consciousness previously arising from the proximate condition, in the case where the other object of the five sense consciousnesses has not become the proximate condition, individually knows the individual characteristic of whichever of its own object's seven elements has become the proximate condition
