Therefore, in order to fully understand the nature of the ultimate truth, the structure of the Sutra Pitaka has been explained. Now, in order to fully understand the nature of the conventional truth, the meaning of the words and so on that are explained in the structure of the Sutra Pitaka will be explained. Among these, it should be understood that the conventional truth has six characteristics: the nature of the mind, the nature of all phenomena, the nature of the absence of inherent existence of all phenomena, from the establishment of the imputation of phenomena, the Śamatha and Vipaśyanā that are completely gathered by yoga, and the distinctions of the path; from the establishment of the Yana, the distinctions of the Yana are explained as they are; and only from the establishment of the imputation of the Yana, the distinctions of accomplishing the deeds of the Tathāgata are explained. The establishment of these sequences is as follows: in order to proclaim the sutra that has the nature of the ultimate truth, and that has meaning, the desired result, and the means to obtain it, this supreme yoga, for those who want to benefit themselves, who are the lords of all beings, and who want the fruit of unsurpassed enlightenment, is a place to generate great faith, and one should generate faith and diligently practice its essence without懈怠. First, in order to counteract the extreme ignorance of the secret of the mind, one must be proficient in the secrets of the various consciousnesses of mind and intellect, so here the nature of the mind is explained first. After that, in order to counteract the extreme ignorance of the nature of phenomena, one must be proficient in the imputed nature, the dependent nature, and the perfectly established nature, so here the nature of phenomena is explained after that. After that, in order to be proficient in the nature, arising, and ultimate absence of inherent existence of phenomena, which are extremely ignorant of the absence of inherent existence of phenomena, therefore, the nature of the absence of inherent existence of phenomena is explained here after that. After that, in order to counteract the extreme ignorance of the method of making the meaning of the absence of inherent existence as yoga, first is the generation of Bodhicitta, and the place of establishing the imputation of phenomena, relying on the cause of the basis, one must be proficient in Śamatha and Vipaśyanā, so here the imputation of phenomena is explained after that.

Beginning with the establishment, it shows the distinctions of the paths of tranquility and insight that are completely encompassed by yoga. After that, in order to counter the extreme ignorance of the practice and conceptualization of the vehicle of tranquility and insight, it is necessary to be proficient in the definitive meaning of the grounds and perfections. Therefore, after this, beginning with the establishment of the vehicle, it shows the distinctions of the vehicle as it is. After that, in order to counter the extreme afflictions of the fruit of the vehicle of the grounds and perfections, it is necessary to be proficient in the characteristics of the body, speech, and mind of the Thus-Gone One. Therefore, after this, beginning only with the establishment of the imputation of the vehicle, it shows the distinctions of the accomplishment of the deeds of the Thus-Gone One. To fully understand this Dharma in order to happily proceed with the teachings of the Sugata is just this much. Know that this encompasses all the Great Vehicle. Regarding this, first, the meaning of the words, etc., of the conventional truth of the characteristics of the mind, which is to be fully understood, will be explained. Therefore, having made the empowerment of that teaching, from "Then, the Bodhisattva Wide Intellect asked the Bhagavan," etc., this fifth chapter of the Noble Wide Intellect was spoken. Regarding this, the condensed meaning of this fifth chapter, in short, is the showing of the characteristics of the mind. Regarding this, if it is distinguished, there are two aspects: complete inquiry and extensive showing. Among these, the complete inquiry is shown from "Bhagavan, the Bodhisattva is skilled in the secrets of mind, intellect, and consciousness," etc., up to "How much is it designated?" The extensive showing is shown from "Thus he asked" and "The Bhagavan spoke thus to the Bodhisattva Wide Intellect," etc., by all the remaining texts of this chapter itself. Regarding this, first, the meaning of the words, etc., of the complete inquiry will be explained. The so-called complete inquiry is to counter the extreme ignorance of the secrets of the mind, and in order to initiate a discussion of being skilled in the secrets of mind, intellect, and consciousness, first the Noble Wide Intellect made an inquiry to the Bhagavan.

That is who I am. Therefore, in order to show that, the Blessed One spoke of "being skilled in the secrets of the mind, intellect, and consciousness of a Bodhisattva," and so forth. Among these, "mind" refers to the ālaya-vijñāna. "Intellect" refers to the afflicted intellect and the consciousness that has just ceased and become the basis. "Consciousness" refers to the six aggregates of entering consciousness. "Secret" refers to the nature, basis, object, companion, function, existence itself, and detailed distinctions of these, which are naturally hidden from outsiders and some who do not understand these dharmas. "Skilled" refers to knowing the law of dharma, being skilled in the secret of its field of activity through the wisdom of individual discernment. Repeating twice is to show the meaning of fame. If someone asks, "Is it so?" This is synonymous with "if it is said so in the sutras." Therefore, "being skilled in the secrets of the mind, intellect, and consciousness of a Bodhisattva" refers to being skilled in the nature, basis, object, companion, and characteristics of the function of these, and being skilled in the existence itself and detailed distinctions of the ālaya-vijñāna. So, what is their nature? It is what is mind, intellect, and consciousness. Among these, "mind" refers to the ālaya-vijñāna, which possesses all seeds, has become the object of the basis, abides in the object of the basis, is able to take, and is gathered by maturation. "Intellect" refers to the afflicted intellect, which is constantly associated with the four types of afflictions: ignorance, view of self, pride of "I am," and craving, and whatever consciousnesses have just ceased. Or, "intellect" refers to the consciousness that has become the basis, and there are four types of basis: the basis of seeds is the ālaya-vijñāna. The basis that opens the door of arising is the consciousnesses that have just ceased. The basis of binding is the afflicted intellect; if it does not cease, then the binding of consciousness will be released.
