It is not even like the jewel on the crown of the Naga king, Jukpo. Thus, this sutra has meaning to be expressed, and it also has the desired result. It also has the connection of the method of attainment. Therefore, those noble yogis who wish to benefit themselves, who prioritize the benefit of all beings, and who desire the supreme fruit of unsurpassed enlightenment, should generate faith in this as the supreme place of faith, and without being distracted, they should diligently practice its essence. Having spoken such infallible words, now I will explain the meaning of the words and so on that establish the distinction of the subject matter. The subject matter is where meanings are related and connected, or where giving necessarily arises mutually, that is called the subject matter. That is, at what time, by whom it was spoken, thus establishing the distinction of the common subject matter; and where, in what state, with what kind of people, in what order they abide, thus establishing the distinction of the uncommon subject matter. First, I will explain how to establish the distinction of the common subject matter by when and by whom it was spoken. This is shown by two kinds of perfections: the perfection of time and the perfection of the teacher. So, when was it spoken? It was at the time of the perfection of time. Therefore, in order to show this, it is said, "Thus I have heard, at one time." In this, the word "thus" as a particle of speech can occur in examples, quoting scriptures, answering questions, affirming, and replying. For example, in the case of an example, if one says, "A rich man is like the son of Vaishravana," it is like knowing that he is like the son of Vaishravana. In the case of quoting scriptures, for example, "Thus recite." In the case of resolving questions, for example, "I have heard it thus, and I speak it thus." In the case of affirmation, for example, "Do it thus." In the case of a reply, for example, "It is so." In this way, many kinds of situations can be cited, but in this context, it should be known that the word "thus" as a particle of speech is used for affirmation. That is, the Bodhisattva who truly gathers all things

They requested the Bodhisattva, saying, "Please explain as you have heard." He promised, "I shall explain as I have heard." Or, I shall truthfully declare what I have heard and demonstrate it accordingly, and not otherwise, it must be ascertained thus. He intended to eliminate the possibility of other branches adding or slandering. "I" means that I myself directly from the Bhagavan, not transmitted from one to another. "Heard" means apprehended by the ear faculty capable of hearing. This also eliminates the certainty of other branches adding or slandering, because those children who cannot hear will add or slander the branches, but this is not the case. "At one time" means at one time. That is, the uninterrupted continuity of listening is called one time. Otherwise, the times of grasping letters, roots, and words are different, so it cannot be done simultaneously. Or, because one who has attained dharani accurately grasps the aspects of all dharmas in one letter, it is also only one time. Or, because one who has attained a purified ear faculty fully understands one letter and has no obstruction to others, it is also only one time. In another explanation, "time" refers to a collection, that is, "at one time, the Bhagavan gathered with his retinue," which should be connected with the following words. That is a time of perfection, its perfection being that the Tathagata appeared in the world and there was an opportunity to directly hear such a precious Sutra Pitaka. If that were the case, even in times of perfect completion, etc., the lifespan of beings is immeasurable and the wealth of resources is perfect, so it could be called a time of perfection. But this time is the time of strife, and the five degenerations are flourishing, so how can it be called a time of perfection? In times of perfect completion, etc., the lifespan of beings is immeasurable and the wealth of resources is perfect.

However, beings generally act carelessly, and do not even utter the names of the Three Jewels, so it cannot be called a time of perfection. In the degenerate age, due to the afflictions of calamities such as disease, people indulge in evil deeds, and even the name of virtue is not heard, that is the end of the era. Although this time is close to the age of strife, the Tathagata has appeared in the world, and such excellent sutras can be heard directly, and there are many who attain realization. Whoever hears the names of the Three Jewels, even for a moment of ringing a bell, generates a virtuous mind, all of them will attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment in other times, the Tathagata has prophesied so, therefore it is not entirely the five degenerations, so it can be called a time of perfection. Who said that? It is the perfect teacher. Therefore, in order to show this, the term "Bhagavan" was spoken. The so-called "Bhagavan" refers to the six excellent qualities, namely, autonomy, complete taming, beautiful appearance, fame, splendor, and greatness. As it is said in the Grammar: "Autonomy and taming, beauty and fame, splendor and greatness, these six virtues are well explained." Just like that. All these qualities, the Tathagata is fully endowed with, therefore the Tathagata is called "Bhagavan." So, what is autonomy? Because one is not controlled by afflictions. What is complete taming? Because the firewood of afflictions is burned by the flame of wisdom. What is beautiful appearance? Because one possesses the thirty-two major marks of a great being. What is fame? Because all the qualities are perfectly complete. What is splendor? Because one is relied upon by all beings. What is greatness? Because one constantly bestows benefit and happiness to all beings. The so-called "endowed" means having. Autonomy
