In order for a Bodhisattva's nature to generate wisdom arising from hearing through the initial eight practices, how does one who seeks the Dharma seek it? And why seek the Dharma? In brief, one seeks the Bodhisattva's collection, the Hearer's collection, the treatises of outsiders, worldly crafts, and knowledge of the places of action. Among these, the Bodhisattva's collection belongs to the scriptures and is known as the extremely extensive section of the twelve branches. The Hearer's collection consists of the remaining branches. The treatises of outsiders are of three types: treatises on medicine, treatises on logic, and treatises on grammar. Knowing worldly crafts and the places of action is the science of crafts and places of action. These things that a Bodhisattva should seek, in brief, are the five sciences: the science of inner meaning, the science of medicine, the science of logic, the science of grammar, and the science of crafts and places of action. Among these, the science of inner meaning belongs to the scriptures, the twelve branches. This should be understood in four ways: the establishment of the foundation, the establishment of the differentiation of names, the collection of the meaning of the teachings, and the place called the Buddha's word. The establishment of the foundation is the collection of the Buddha's word through the three bases of the Sutras, the Vinaya, and the Matrikas. The establishment of the differentiation of names is the differentiation of the names of all the Dharmas collected in the Buddha's word. The collection of the meaning of the teachings is the summary of all the infinite teachings collected by the Buddha's word. The place called the Buddha's word is the place where all that is called the Buddha's word is collected, and therefore it is the place for understanding the Buddha's word itself. One's own science, in brief, enters through two ways: in the manner of truly showing cause and effect, and in showing the place where what has been done is not wasted and what has not been done will not be encountered. The science of medicine is the treatise on medicine, which is knowing how to cure diseases. This should be viewed in four ways: being skilled in diseases, being skilled in the causes of diseases,
