Taking vows purely and correctly, and after taking vows, even if impoverished and facing death, one should not break or abandon the vows that have been taken purely. Until the end of life, even the slightest fault should not arise, let alone a major one. In this way, in all actions, dwelling, and intentions, one should always maintain mindfulness and vigilance. In all aspects, what is discipline? There are four types: taking vows correctly, natural discipline, habituation, and possessing skillful means. What is the discipline of noble beings? There are five types: the Bodhisattva himself possesses discipline, also encourages others to take pure vows, praises the virtues of discipline, rejoices upon seeing actions in accordance with the Dharma, and if faults occur, repents according to the Dharma. What is discipline in all aspects? There are six qualities and seven qualities, totaling thirteen. The six qualities are: vastness, being without fault, being in accordance with a place of great joy, constant practice, stability, and possessing the adornment of discipline. The seven are: the discipline of restraint, the discipline of entering, the discipline of complete protection, the discipline that ripens the marks of a great person, the discipline that ripens higher mind, the discipline that ripens suffering transmigrations, and the discipline that ripens the benefit of sentient beings. What is discipline in terms of poverty and desire? There are eight types: secrecy, not taking what is not given, engaging in sexual misconduct out of desire, lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, idle chatter, and causing harm with hands, sticks, whips, and so on. If others do this to me, it will make me feel impoverished, and I will want to eliminate this suffering; similarly, if I treat others in this way, it will also make them feel impoverished, and they will want to eliminate this suffering. By examining each of these separately, one should not commit these eight faults. What is the discipline that leads to happiness in this life and the next? There are nine types:
