Now, it correctly generates and closely accomplishes what is non-existent, eliminates the anger of those who are displeased with the Buddha's teachings, introduces ordinary people, fully matures those who have entered, and liberates those who are fully matured. Therefore, those who are skilled in means, because they themselves are not completely defiled by afflictions and can dispel the afflictions of others, the birth of a Bodhisattva is called the most excellent. The meaning of the words and so on, which are skilled in the state of fully maturing one's own and others' continuums, has been explained. After that, the meaning of the words and so on, which are skilled in the means of perfecting intention, will be explained. The so-called skilled in the means of perfecting intention means that the Bodhisattva truly fulfills the aspiration for the sake of perfecting the Buddha's Dharma and maturing sentient beings. Therefore, in order to master these, the meaning is explained here. Therefore, in order to explain these, (the questioner) asked: World Honored One, why do Bodhisattvas make great aspirations, possess excellent aspirations, and have the power of aspirations? All the true aspirations of Bodhisattvas are, in short, five types: aspiration for generating the mind, aspiration for taking birth, aspiration for the field of activity, aspiration for truth, and great aspiration. What is the cause for fulfilling such true aspirations of Bodhisattvas and perfecting intention? This is what was asked. Among them, the so-called making great aspirations refers to the field of activity of the aspiration for generating the mind and the aspiration for taking birth. The so-called aspiration for generating the mind means first generating the unsurpassed perfect Bodhicitta before truly accomplishing the Bodhisattva lineage. The so-called aspiration for taking birth means aspiring to be born in various cycles of existence in the future for the benefit of sentient beings. Among them, the aspiration for generating the mind refers to first generating Bodhicitta.

From that point onwards, until the attainment of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, to be born in all places of perfect benefit for oneself, and at the beginning of that aspiration, to be born in all places of perfect benefit for others, is called proceeding with vast aspiration. Having excellent aspiration means: having excellent aspiration for the field of conduct. The aspiration for the field of conduct means: aspiring to be skilled in discriminating the Dharma, and aspiring to the realm of cultivating virtuous Dharma such as the immeasurable. Therefore, having good aspiration for cultivating all the fields of conduct of a Bodhisattva, it is called having excellent aspiration. Having the power of aspiration means: having true aspiration and great power. True aspiration means: aspiring to gather all the virtues of a Bodhisattva in the future, extensively, and to gather all the qualities. Great aspiration should be understood from the true aspiration itself. Now there are ten aspects: in the future, making offerings to the Thus-Gone One, and the great aspiration to make all attendants immeasurable; the great aspiration to fully uphold and protect the sacred Dharma of all the Buddhas, the Bhagavat; the great aspiration to truly uphold the Dharma; the great aspiration to abide in the Tushita heaven until passing into complete nirvana; the great aspiration to perfectly accomplish all aspects of the conduct of a Bodhisattva; the great aspiration to fully ripen all sentient beings; the great aspiration to truly reveal all realms of the world; the great aspiration to purify all Buddha-fields; the great aspiration to enter the Great Vehicle, to make the intention and actions of all Bodhisattvas consistent; and the great aspiration to make all true actions fruitful; the great aspiration to attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Each of these has a hundred thousand wheels of aspiration.
