The practice of entering the wisdom of the departed is the great joy of remembering the Buddha through the gate of remembrance. The object now attained is the joy of returning to the supreme realm, thinking, "I have returned from the realm of all beings," because of returning from the enjoyment of beings. There are nine aspects to this: returning because of being close to the Buddha, returning because of being far from the ground of ordinary beings, returning because of being close to wisdom, returning because the stream of all evil destinies and evil paths of falling is cut off, returning because of becoming the teacher of all sentient beings, returning because of seeing and being close to the Tathagatas, returning because of truly arising in the Buddha's realm, returning because of being endowed with the equality of all Bodhisattvas, and returning because of being free from fear, hatred, and timidity, thus generating great joy. Therefore, the first ground is called the Joyful Ground, and it should be connected in this way. The second ground, from the defining word of the second, indicates that it is called the Immaculate Ground because it is free from the stains of bad habits and the stains of wrong efforts. Among them, being free from the stains of bad habits is shown by saying that it is free from all the stains of subtle transgressions. In the second ground, it is shown by the purity of nature, and the so-called purity of nature is the purity of the three vows, which is the purity of the vows, because it is free from the stains of bad habits, so it is declared to be the Immaculate Ground. Being free from the stains of wrong efforts is shown by saying that it is free from all the stains of immoral vows. The purity of the vows of collecting virtuous dharmas and the vows of accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings is declared to be the Immaculate Ground because it is free from the stains of wrong efforts. Therefore, the second ground is called the Immaculate Ground, and it should be connected in this way. The third ground, from the defining word of the third, is called the Luminous Ground because it makes a great light of dharma through the occasion of giving and fruition.
