of direct perception, and the wisdom of directly perceiving the knowledge of death and birth, and the wisdom of directly perceiving the knowledge of the exhaustion of defilements. Thus, with the three wisdoms of non-learning, one can penetrate the depths of all phenomena, both past and future, with and without defilements. Therefore, it is called the perfection of far-reaching conduct. After that, to show the perfection of good conduct, he spoke of what is called "attaining the supreme state of dwelling in bliss in this life." To dwell in bliss in this life is to dwell in the complete purity of the actual practice of meditation. Attaining the supreme of these is to attain the meditation that does not degenerate and the absorption of cessation. Thus, attaining the actual practice of meditation and the absorption of cessation is the path of dwelling in bliss in this life, and therefore it is called the perfection of good conduct. After that, to show the perfection of complete enjoyment, he spoke of "the great purification of offerings." If a person is immoral and does not possess qualities, the offerings given with faith are used up, then it becomes a debt; if a person is moral and enjoys with qualities, although he has the right to enjoy, he does not quickly produce fruit; for the Arhats who are free from the desire of the three realms, like Mount Sumeru, even if all the gods and all the worlds serve with all the means of happiness, like a fertile field, they quickly accomplish excellent fruit, therefore it is a great enjoyment. Thus, it does not become a debt to oneself, and for the benefactor, the fruit is quick and excellent, like a fertile field, therefore it is called the perfection of complete enjoyment. After that, to show the perfection of near pacification, he spoke of "the perfection of extremely peaceful conduct." Walking, standing, sitting, sleeping, and so on, in all conduct, acting with mindfulness is having extremely peaceful conduct. Thus, in all conduct, with right

Acting accordingly is endowed with gentleness, hence it is called perfect peace. After that, to show the perfection of happiness in association, it is said, "Endowed with patience and great certainty." That is, having great patience to endure all sufferings, and great certainty to make the teachings pleasing and convincing, this is endowed with patience and great certainty. Thus, one who is endowed with patience and great certainty is worthy of being relied upon, hence it is called the perfection of happiness in association. After that, to show the perfection of being in control, it is said, "Deeply entered into the teachings of the Tathagata." That is, in order to perfect all the trainings, one acts without contradicting the teachings of the Tathagata, hence it is called deeply entered into the teachings. Thus, one who is deeply entered into the teachings of the Tathagata is not controlled by other afflictions, hence one can freely practice in all the trainings, hence it is called the perfection of being in control. The meaning of "only" refers to the perfection of the Shravaka assembly, which has such immeasurable qualities, and its number is only that, and it is also one with the perfection of the Bodhisattva assembly, which should be connected with the following text. The meaning of the words of the perfection of the Shravaka assembly, etc., has been explained. Thus, after explaining the perfection of the Shravaka assembly, to show the perfection of the Bodhisattva assembly, it is said, "All the immeasurable Bodhisattvas gathered from the various Buddha-fields have all truly dwelt in the great place," and so on. Among them, the necessity of explaining the qualities of the Bodhisattvas is to dispel the contempt of some people towards them. Because it is said in the sutra, "The Shravakas who have practiced celibacy for a long time should generate awe towards the Bodhisattvas." And, in order to make some people believe that the Bodhisattvas also have such qualities, let alone the Tathagata? Among them, the perfection of the Bodhisattva is accomplished by three kinds of greatness.

The greatness of the Bodhisattvas is proclaimed, that is, great in number, great in qualities, and great in deeds. Among them, the great number is indicated by the statement that the Bodhisattvas gathered from different Buddha-fields are immeasurable. The statement "gathered from different Buddha-fields" is to counteract those who do not go to listen to the Dharma because they do not value it, those who do not go to listen to the Dharma because of laziness, and those who do not go to listen to the Dharma because of arrogance. For those who do not go to listen to the Dharma because they do not value it, it is to counteract them, because they themselves value listening to the Dharma, so they come from other different Buddha-fields, not relying on others. Therefore, others should be told, why not value listening to the Dharma? For those who do not go to listen to the Dharma because of laziness, it is to counteract them, because they have come here from distant different Buddha-fields with great effort to listen to the Dharma. Therefore, it should be told to those who do not go to listen to the Dharma because of laziness that it is unreasonable to do so. For those who do not go to listen to the Dharma because of arrogance, it is to counteract them, because those who possess great wealth also come from other different Buddha-fields to listen to the Dharma, so why shouldn't others do so? One should think in this way. The meaning of the word Bodhisattva is to generate the mind for unsurpassed Bodhi and all sentient beings. Another explanation is that Bodhi means having realization, and Sattva means having courage. Immeasurable means completely beyond counting, which indicates the greatness of its number. Great qualities can be understood through nine kinds of greatness, namely, great effort, great cause, great goal, great time, great absence of desire, great attention, great realization, great complete purification, and great realization. Among them, great effort is indicated by the statement that everything has completely entered the great state. Mind
