Having these words written down, upholding them, making offerings, giving them to others, listening respectfully in the presence of the teacher, reciting them oneself, fully understanding the meaning of the scriptures, memorizing the scriptures, expressing the content of the scriptures extensively with sound, and showing them to others extensively and correctly. Going alone to a solitary place, practicing in the manner of thinking and meditating, the roots of virtue accumulated by these actions are extremely great, and they are in accordance with the part of certainty. In order to extremely cultivate patience and faith in accordance with the Dharma of emptiness, from that stage of practicing with faith and understanding, one cultivates the antidote that truly transcends. So, what is the fruit obtained from cultivation? The scriptures say that the Bodhisattva himself also enters the faultless state. The true faultless state of the Bodhisattva is the manifestation of the first moment of mind that transcends the world, which is the attainment of the first ground. This is explained in four ways: abiding, definitive word, supremely abiding, and difference. Among them, abiding refers to the initial condition in which a Bodhisattva generates this mind, that is, having the basis of accumulating great roots of virtue. Accumulating great roots of virtue can be understood in nine aspects: perfecting moral discipline, therefore accumulating Dharma; perfecting meditative concentration, therefore accumulating conduct; perfecting the wisdom arising from hearing, therefore accumulating service; with the wisdom arising from thinking, fully understanding the good Dharma such as the Perfection of Wisdom, therefore accumulating complete collection; in order to combine the meditation that realizes the truth, fully obtaining the instructions, therefore accumulating complete upholding; in order to obtain the realization of the truth, accumulating pure intention; in order to benefit sentient beings, accumulating superior intention; in order to desire omniscience, accumulating faith and understanding; and abiding in love and compassion, accumulating manifestation. Therefore, the Bodhisattva is the basis of accumulating great roots of virtue, and generating this mind in this situation is the first ground.

is situated in the first ground. What is the reason for this? It means, aiming at what does it arise? It is because one wishes to fully attain the wisdom of the Buddha, as well as abandonment and direct realization, and possessing unsurpassed meditation. The wisdom of the Buddha can also be understood in nine ways, through the distinctions of nine kinds of actions. That is, the wisdom of the Buddha's power has the task of answering questions; the wisdom of the Buddha's fearlessness has the task of defeating external opponents; the wisdom of the Buddha's equality has the task of giving instructions in order to realize the absence of self of persons and the absence of self of phenomena; the wisdom of the Buddha's complete protection has the task of completely maturing sentient beings through the four objects of gathering; the wisdom of the Buddha's purification has the task of completely purifying the basis for completely maturing sentient beings; the wisdom of the Buddha's complete knowledge has the task of the Buddha's eye seeing the world in six divisions of day and night; the wisdom of the Buddha's complete purification of the Dharma, and because the mind is unimpeded, there is no impediment in all fields, and the task of entering through non-afflicted emanations; the wisdom of the Buddha's realization has the task of knowing the thoughts and habitual tendencies of those sentient beings of the three times in a single instant; the wisdom of the Buddha's thoroughly turning the wheel of Dharma has the task of being skilled in the means of liberation by simultaneously turning the wheel of Dharma in hundreds of millions of Jambudvipas. Because one wishes to directly realize such wisdom of the Buddha, this mind arises and is situated in the first ground. What is the basis? It means, from what basis does what kind of mind arise, having what kind of characteristics, and being of what nature? It is from the basis of great compassion going before that the nature of great compassion arises. That great compassion going before, that great compassion itself can also be understood in nine ways. That is, because of knowing the subtle suffering, the great compassion that has become powerful arises; and in order to completely protect suffering sentient beings,
