Superior intention is to generate faith and joy in the Buddha's teachings, and to individually discern and determine, with faith as the guide, and with discerning the teachings as the guide. These are fifteen types: superior intention, ethical intention, transcendent intention, intention of the sole meaning, power intention, beneficial intention, happiness intention, suffering intention, steadfast intention, non-deceptive intention, impure intention, pure intention, extremely pure intention, taming intention, and innate intention. Among these, the so-called superior intention refers to the superior intention of a Bodhisattva towards the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, the three jewels. The so-called ethical intention refers to the superior intention arising from a Bodhisattva's proper acceptance of the precepts of ethical discipline. The so-called transcendent intention refers to the superior intention arising from the desire to perfect generosity, ethical discipline, patience, diligence, meditative concentration, and wisdom. The so-called intention of the sole meaning refers to the superior intention arising from the profound suchness of phenomena, the ultimate truth of the selflessness of phenomena and persons. The so-called power intention refers to the superior intention arising from the miraculous power of direct cognition of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, or from the inconceivable innate qualities. The so-called beneficial intention refers to the intention to closely accomplish virtue for sentient beings. The so-called happiness intention refers to the intention to closely accomplish benefit for sentient beings. The so-called suffering intention refers to the mind without contamination for sentient beings, as well as the ripening of suffering, and the mind without connection.

It is so. The pure intention is called the superior intention of the Bodhisattvas from the beginning of the pure intention ground to the determined behavior ground. The extremely pure intention is called the superior intention of the Bodhisattvas on the ground of reaching the ultimate. The intention of cutting off is the impure intention, which is for the sake of individual examination. The intention of being born together is the intention of being pure and extremely pure, because its nature is its essence and it is extremely stable in its support. These fifteen intentions are summarized into four types: what is the superior intention in terms of meaning, what is the superior intention in terms of difference, what is the superior intention in terms of ground, and what is the superior intention in terms of order. What is the meaning? It is for the benefit of oneself and others. The basis of self-interest is fivefold: the basis of offering, the basis of virtuous Dharma, the basis of constantly practicing virtuous Dharma, the basis of revolving in samsara with a mind free from all defilements, and the basis of sincerely believing in the Buddha's teachings from the bottom of one's heart. Among them, there are also five kinds of superior intentions, from the supreme intention to the intention of power, in order. The benefit of others is twofold: the basis of benefiting in other lives and the basis of happiness in this life. For these two, there are two kinds of superior intentions: the intention of benefit and the intention of happiness, in order. What is the difference? In three ways: by means of benefiting others, by means of benefiting oneself, and by the difference between the two meanings, the superior intention, the firm intention, and the non-deceptive intention, in order. What is the ground? It exists on the third ground, that is, on the impure ground, the pure ground, and the extremely pure ground, the impure intention, the pure intention, and the extremely pure intention, in order. What is the order? In three ways: the impure intention generates the pure intention, and the pure intention generates the extremely pure intention, the intention of cutting off, and the intention of being born together, in order.
