Now, it is only in that unsurpassed, truly complete and perfect Bodhi that one can fully awaken and accomplish all the deeds of a Buddha. The abode of the Tathagata is indicated by the term "Buddha-bhumi" (Buddha-ground). Having transcended that supreme state, from the unsurpassed, truly complete and perfect Bodhi, one fully awakens, attaining unobstructed knowledge and vision without attachment to all knowable things, perfecting the greatness of the three bodies, four wisdoms, and one hundred and forty unmixed qualities of a Buddha, and accomplishing all the deeds of a Buddha. The meaning of the words of these grounds will be explained below in the section on expertise in names. The explanation is sevenfold: expertise in the result, expertise in the opposing factors, expertise in the antidote, expertise in names, expertise in the detailed classification of the opposing factors, expertise in the classification of the antidote, expertise in the state of fully ripening one's own and others' continuums, and expertise in the means of perfecting intention. Among these, expertise in the result is when asked, "How many purifications are there of these grounds?" and Avalokiteshvara replied, "These grounds are fourfold," and from that point on, Avalokiteshvara began to explain, such as, "The first is summarized by pure intention," and so forth. Expertise in the opposing factors and the antidote is when asked, "By how many limbs are they summarized?" and the reply was, "They should be known to be summarized by eleven limbs," and from that point on, the explanation began, such as, "What are the eleven limbs?" and so forth. Expertise in names is when asked, "Bhagavan, why is the first ground called 'Joyful'?" and so forth. Expertise in the detailed classification of the opposing factors is when asked, "Bhagavan, how much ignorance is there on these grounds, and how many opposing factors of the lower realms are there?" and so forth. Expertise in the detailed classification of the antidote is when asked, "Bhagavan, by how many purifications are these established?" and so forth. Expertise in the state of fully ripening one's own and others' continuums is when asked, "Bhagavan, why is...

Furthermore, among all existences in future lives, it is taught that the birth as a Bodhisattva is the most excellent, and so on. Being skilled in the means of perfecting aspirations: "For what reason, Blessed One, do Bodhisattvas make great aspirations, possess abundant aspirations, and have the power of aspirations?" and so on, has been taught. Thereupon, first, the meaning of the words of being skilled in the fruit, and so on, shall be explained. "Fruit" means that all the grounds are thoroughly distinguished by the nature of the body of the cause and the characteristics of the fruit, and are the very nature of entering and abiding. All of the ten abodes of Bodhisattvas and the abodes of the Thus-Gone Ones are such that the former is the body of the cause, and the latter is the characteristic of the fruit. Therefore, the body of the cause is the nature of entering, and the characteristic of the fruit is the nature of abiding. However, relying on the abode of lineage and the abode of practice through faith, all the way up to the abode of complete joy, all are the transcendental abodes, which are the realization of the fruit. "Being skilled in the fruit" means being skilled in thoroughly distinguishing the grounds, which are gathered by the fourfold purity. Therefore, with the intention of teaching this, after asking, "How many purities do those grounds have?" and so on, Avalokiteśvara, the Lord of Power, said, "The four purities of those grounds," and so on. Among them, "The first ground is gathered by the purity of thought" means that the first ground is the place of the purity of higher thought. The purity of thought is also distinguished by the fact that the realm of thought of Bodhisattvas has faith in the dharmas of the Buddhas, and arises from the cause of distinguishing the realm of higher thought by the fact that it has faith in the qualities of the dharmas of the Buddhas. The nature of the realization of thought is the nature of great wisdom arising from thought, and the nature of the dharma that is in accordance with the aspects of enlightenment that are in accordance with it. Therefore, the first ground is gathered by the purity of thought. The nature of the realization of thought is also that of a Bodhisattva.
