Wisdom arising from learning means arising from understanding reality through reasoning. That is, it is not merely a state of meditative equipoise, but rather it precisely and correctly discerns the meaning that abides in words and phrases. However, through the cause of reasoning and correctly contemplating, it teaches that one can precisely and correctly discern meanings that are not just as they are spoken. The meaning of "abiding only in words and phrases" is because it relies on the meaning of what is heard. The meaning of "not just as they are spoken, but with intentional meaning" is because it is the meaning examined by reasoning. The meaning of "not manifest" is the same as before, but it is superior to the previous one because it follows the meaning of engaging the mind with the intention of meditative equipoise. The meaning of "extremely conforming to liberation" is because it is the support of the path of non-interruption. The meaning of "not causing liberation" is the same as before, but it is superior to the previous one because it immediately follows the meaning of being able to liberate from afflictions. The meaning of "precisely and correctly discerning" is through the wisdom of reasoning and correctly contemplating. Wisdom arising from meditation means arising from definitely ascertaining the Dharma. Therefore, it teaches that one can precisely and correctly discern the meaning of the previous two, and the meaning that is superior to them, such as not abiding in words and phrases. The meaning of "abiding in words and phrases" is because it also understands the meaning of the previous two. The meaning of "not abiding in words and phrases" is because it is not mixed with spoken words. The meaning of "just as they are spoken" is because it focuses on the meaning of what is heard. The meaning of "with intentional meaning" is because it focuses on the meaning of what is thought. The meaning of "manifested by the image of the object of meditative absorption that is in accordance with the object of knowledge" is that the object of focus is manifested by the shamatha of the ground of meditative equipoise and the path of vipashyana, which is the meaning of self-awareness. The meaning of "extremely conforming to liberation" is because it is the nature of the path of non-interruption. The meaning of "causing liberation"

The so-called "meaning" refers to the suchness of the path of liberation. The so-called "individually and truly knowing" refers to the wisdom of certainty. The so-called "making them distinct" uses "that is" to explain the meaning of the ground before entering into samadhi, as well as the meaning of following the ground after entering into samadhi, and the meaning of the ground of entering into samadhi, using individual and true knowledge to show the differences between them. Thus, after showing the differences of individual and true knowledge with the three wisdoms, now, in order to show the nature of the wisdom and vision arising from meditation, the Bhagavan Bodhisattva asked about practicing calm abiding and insight meditation, and so on. The so-called "showing with many names" means that wisdom is grasping the ultimate truth, as well as grasping the nature of being as it is, and grasping the non-manifold. Vision is grasping the conventional truth, as well as grasping the nature of all that exists, and the distinctions of manifold, and so on. The so-called "to be explained briefly" is a synonym for saying that the nature is to be shown. The wisdom of calm abiding and insight meditation that focuses on mixed dharmas is wisdom, which refers to the ultimate truth, as well as the nature of being as it is, and the non-manifold. The wisdom of calm abiding and insight meditation that focuses on non-mixed dharmas is vision, which refers to the conventional truth, as well as the nature of all that exists, and the manifold. Thus, calm abiding alone cannot completely perfect the nature of the path of insight meditation, so if one clings to just that as being sufficient, one will degenerate and waste away from the nature of the path of calm abiding and insight meditation, so in order not to degenerate from that, and not to waste away, through teaching and explanation, the distinction of individual and true knowledge with the three wisdoms, as well as the wisdom arising from meditation, and the establishment and determination of the path of insight meditation distinguished by the nature of vision, showing that the establishment and determination is made because calm abiding alone cannot be wasted.
