The term "mind sinking or suspecting sinking" refers to the time of exertion, because at that time, exertion should be practiced especially. Exertion means that when the mind sinks, it is to uplift the mind and bring it closer to the object of focus, which is a part of insight. Among them, "mind sinking" means that the mind is weakened by dullness and sleep. "Suspecting sinking" means following after sinking. "The dharmas that are in accordance with manifest joy" refers to the cause of the basis of exertion, which is the nature of cessation and the path. Having practiced the mind of exertion, in order to completely purify the path of exertion, applying the characteristic of tranquility to it is also the cause of the basis of exertion. Among them, the former is to prevent from the unfavorable side, and the latter is to follow the antidote, but here the former is taken. "The characteristic of the mind" refers to the cause of the object of exertion, which is the object of insight, the image with conceptualization. "Whatever is attention is called the cause of exertion," which means that uplifting the sinking mind and bringing it closer to the object of focus is exertion, and its cause is attention, so it is called the cause of exertion. "Being solely determined in tranquility, or solely determined in insight, or the path of union," refers to the time of abandonment, because at those three times, abandonment should be practiced especially. "Neither of them is defiled by the afflictions of proximity" refers to the cause of the basis of abandonment, which means that on the path of being solely determined in tranquility, there are no afflictions of proximity of agitation and regret, and on the path of being solely determined in insight, there are no afflictions of proximity of dullness and sleep, and on the path of union, there are no afflictions of proximity of both. The nature of the mind of abandonment means that in order to completely purify it from above to above, one should properly examine that object of focus and should not exert too much effort.

And attending is also the basis for equanimity. The former reverses from unfavorable aspects, while the latter follows the antidote. In this case, the former should be taken. 'When the mind naturally enters' indicates the reason for the object of equanimity, which is the object of the dual path, the refuge where the limits of things and needs are completely fulfilled. 'Whatever spontaneously arises in the mind is the reason for equanimity' indicates that spontaneously arising in the mind is equanimity, and its reason is that those moments are spontaneously arising in the mind, so it is called the reason for equanimity. Thus, by fully understanding the reasons for meditation, in order to prevent the essence of Vipassanā and Śamatha from being lost or wasted, by teaching and explaining, showing the full understanding of the reasons for meditation, establishing the foundation, this is to establish the foundation for not wasting the full understanding of the reasons for meditation. After that, in order to dismantle and prevent the waste of manifest pride, the meaning of the words of establishing the foundation will be explained. Manifest pride means that when applying the essence of the path of Śamatha and Vipassanā, based on the arising of mere Śamatha and knowledge, and mere understanding and insight, one thinks that even the Dharma and other meanings that have not been fully understood and directly realized have been fully understood and directly realized, thus generating manifest pride. Dismantling and establishing the foundation to prevent waste means dismantling manifest pride, and because there is no manifest pride, in order to prevent the essence of the path of Śamatha and Vipassanā from being lost or wasted, by teaching and explaining, establishing the foundation of no manifest pride. So, how to connect it? Here, the noble Maitreya says that other yogis, when practicing the essence of the path of Śamatha and Vipassanā contained in yoga,
