The phrase "what is the function of" means that in order to dispel the ignorance of the time for cultivating the reason of equanimity through explanation, and in order to avoid wasting time, the principle of establishing the determination is shown. The phrase "one-pointedness of mind" means becoming a single object, completely transcending the object of two images, and is the mind that is combined with a single object in which the boundaries and needs of things are completely accomplished. In this way, dispelling the ignorance of the time for cultivating the three reasons, and because of understanding the time for cultivating the three reasons, the essence of the path of tranquility and insight that is distinguished, in order not to degenerate from this and not to waste time, through teaching and explanation, the principle of establishing the determination of knowing the time for cultivating the three reasons is shown, which is to dispel the ignorance of the time for cultivating the three reasons and to establish the determination in order not to waste time. After that, in order to dispel the attachment to being satisfied with a small amount, and in order not to waste time, the meaning of the words of establishing the determination will be explained. The so-called "attachment to being satisfied with a small amount" means that the essence of the path of tranquility and insight arises from different bases, has different kinds, and has many different stages, so the yogi must fully understand and comprehend all of these. If one is satisfied with only understanding and comprehending a part of them, this is called "attachment to being satisfied with a small amount." The so-called "establishing the determination in order to dispel and not waste time" means dispelling the attachment to being satisfied with a small amount, and because the essence of the path of tranquility and insight that is distinguished by not being attached to being satisfied with a small amount, in order not to degenerate from this and not to waste time, through teaching and explanation, the determination of not being attached to being satisfied with a small amount is established. So, how is it connected? Here, the noble Maitreya Bodhisattva considers that others think like this: the essence of the path of tranquility and insight that is encompassed by yoga, from what basis does it arise, how many kinds are there, in which stages does it exist, etc., based on the thoughts of these people.

Regarding "How many types of Vipassanā are there of the Bhagavan?" etc., please combine the two types that have been asked about. Regarding "The three types of Maitreya," etc., it is to refute the view that only a little Vipassanā is sufficient, and to show the establishment of ascertainment in order not to waste it. The so-called "arising from characteristics, arising from seeking, and arising from individual observation" refers to the three doors of the path of Vipassanā, namely, merely following the characteristics, following the seeking, and following the individual observation in the seeking. Please combine them according to what has been said and the order. That is, it arises from hearing, arises from thinking, and arises from meditation. Furthermore, it is well distinguished by the purity of the object, well distinguished by the purity of the path, extremely purified by being without impurity, and well distinguished by the purity of its own nature. Among these, the so-called purity of the object refers to the object of Samadhi that is accompanied by investigation and analysis, namely, the holy Dharma that is heard, or received, or the instructions and subsequent teachings of a virtuous friend, and the place where one abides in accordance with them, which is the object. The so-called purity of the path refers to taking that (object) as the object, relying on the purity of the object, and thinking, distinguishing, measuring, and closely distinguishing with the wisdom arising from thinking. The so-called immaculate purity refers to, in that (object), thinking, observing, measuring, and closely observing with the purity of the path, and when individually observing as it is established by the wisdom arising from meditation, the mind is completely liberated by the complete purification of the obscurations of afflictions. The so-called purity of self-nature refers to, at that time (of the object), the wisdom being completely liberated by the complete purification of the obscurations of knowledge. Furthermore, it arises from the characteristics of dependent reasoning and functional reasoning, arises from the seeking of reasoning established by valid reasoning, and arises from the individual observation of the reasoning of the nature of reality. What is meant by arising from characteristics, etc., is to refute the view that only a little Vipassanā is sufficient through explanation, in order not to waste it.

In order to establish, the reason for determining is explained. That which is called "the superior seeing that contemplates only the image associated with conceptualization, the object of meditative absorption," is the gateway that follows only the characteristics. This is the superior seeing distinguished by the contemplation of the path of union, which arises from hearing, is distinguished by the complete purification of the object, and arises from the reason of dependence and the reason of the characteristics of action. That which is called "the superior seeing that contemplates in order to thoroughly understand those dharmas that wisdom has not fully understood," is the gateway that follows complete searching. This is the superior seeing distinguished by the contemplation of the path of ultimate union, which arises from thinking, is distinguished by the complete purification of the path, and arises from the complete searching established by valid reasoning. In this context, "that and that" refers to that and that image distinguished by the contemplation of the path of ultimate union. "Wisdom" refers to the wisdom that arises from thinking, is distinguished by the complete purification of the path, and arises from the complete searching established by valid reasoning. That which is called "those dharmas that have not been fully understood" refers to those image dharmas that have not realized the non-duality of the nature of mind as self-awareness. That which is called "the superior seeing that contemplates in order to thoroughly experience and touch the dharmas that wisdom has thoroughly understood through liberation" is the gateway that follows the individual examination of complete searching. This is the superior seeing distinguished by the contemplation of the result of the path of ultimate union, which arises from meditation, is distinguished by immaculate complete purification and self-nature complete purification, and arises from the individual examination of the reason of dharmata. In this context, "that" refers to that and that nature of mind distinguished by the contemplation of the result of the path of ultimate union, distinguished only by the appearance of consciousness. "Wisdom" refers to meditation
