Therefore, because there is no fatigue of body, and because there is no complete suffering of mind, it is also called extreme pliancy of body and mind. This is called tranquility, which means that through the attention of the path of tranquility, the distraction of signs is pacified. When contemplating images related to conceptual thought, as the degree of habituation increases, and as controlled by the power of complete purification, becoming vast, increasing, and expanding, then through the path of obtaining attention, which distinguishes the path of tranquility that pacifies the distraction of signs, the one-pointedness of mind also becomes vast, increasing, and expanding. When the inner one-pointedness of mind becomes vast, increasing, and expanding, then following immediately after, through the attention of the ultimate path, which distinguishes the path of tranquility that pacifies the distraction of bad rebirths, the arising of extreme pliancy of body and mind also becomes vast, increasing, and expanding. When the extreme pliancy of body and mind becomes vast, increasing, and expanding, then at this time the inner one-pointedness of mind also becomes vast, increasing, and expanding. Therefore, these two dharmas, the inner one-pointedness of mind and the extreme pliancy of body and mind, should be understood as being mutually dependent and mutually reliant. Therefore, the bodhisattva seeks tranquility, which is a concluding statement. Therefore, through the word "therefore," it can be determined that the bodhisattva seeks tranquility only through attention to the dharma, and not through other means. The meaning of the word tranquility is the place where the distraction of signs and the distraction of bad rebirths are pacified, which is a synonym for one-pointedness of mind. Seeking does not mean seeking the cause of connection, but rather seeking distinguished by the attention of the ultimate path, and only in this way can one attain tranquility. Having thus explained the seeking of tranquility, now it will be explained how the bodhisattva is skilled in insight.
