It transforms. Thus, what is the cause for a Bodhisattva who has become the eighth ground without learning in this way to take another existence? It is two kinds of power: the power of conditions and the power of causes. The power of conditions is that he has become unlearned. When he abides in the Suchness that has become the state of transformation of the Alaya-vijnana, although he has attained the state of transformation by abandoning all the obscurations of afflictions, he has not abandoned the obscurations of knowledge. Therefore, not abandoning the subtle imprints of ignorance without afflictions is the power of the condition for taking another existence. The power of causes is all the afflictions that are the cause of samsara and that are equally endowed with the roots of virtue. What are they? Never being satisfied with seeking the accumulation of merit, completely grasping birth in existence intentionally, wishing to meet the Buddhas, never being weary of completely maturing sentient beings, striving to completely uphold the holy Dharma, being delighted with the thought of what can be done for sentient beings, not abandoning the latent tendencies of desiring the Dharma, and never abandoning the application to the Paramitas. Those that completely transform into the nature of the complete maturation of the roots of virtue, even if they are nourished by the power of the condition of the imprints of ignorance, become the cause of the manifest accomplishment of the body in existence, so these two causes and conditions also cause the taking of existence. Thus, although the aggregates of life are prolonged when one becomes a Buddha without learning, because one's faculties are dull and one is manifestly delighted in Nirvana, one is very slow to attain unsurpassed Bodhi. Therefore, it is not certain that one will necessarily emerge in three countless eons. It should be understood that even a Bodhisattva who is a beginner is much faster than that. If that sentient being of uncertain lineage finds another condition by which he will completely pass into Nirvana through the Great Vehicle, then from the very beginning he will generate the mind for unsurpassed Bodhi, and the Bodhisattva will manifestly and completely awaken to unsurpassed, perfectly complete Bodhi through the stages of the grounds of the Bodhisattva. That is, from the generation of the mind to the first ground, one's faculties are extremely dull on the worldly path, and

Due to a greater proportion of afflictions and a greater proportion of non-diligence, it is not certain that the first countless eons will necessarily lead to realization. Until one attains the first ground, non-diligence is impossible, so it is certain that two countless eons will necessarily lead to realization. Thus, the so-called uncertain lineage previously obtained equal shares of the lineage by fully accomplishing the causes for liberation through the three vehicles. Later, at the stage of generating bodhicitta, it is only considered that one might be influenced by another cause of any of the vehicles. Therefore, among the categories of sentient beings, there is no definitively divided group. It should be understood that this is also inherently uncertain. The three, namely, the Hearer, Solitary Realizer, and Tathagata Vehicle realizable lineages, are similar. Among those sentient beings who naturally abide in their lineages, whichever one has fully accomplished the causes for liberation through the Hearer's path and has obtained only that lineage is called the Hearer Vehicle realizable lineage. Whichever one has fully accomplished the causes for liberation through the Solitary Realizer's path and has obtained only that lineage is called the Solitary Realizer Vehicle realizable lineage. Whichever one has fully accomplished the causes for liberation through the Great Vehicle and has obtained only that lineage is called the Tathagata Vehicle realizable lineage. These also realize their respective vehicles according to the causes and conditions of the lineages that have been fully accomplished, and they are certain to obtain the individual fruits of enlightenment. After attaining enlightenment, the Tathagata is the unsurpassed one who realizes the ultimate fruit, so there is nothing higher than that. Attaining the enlightenment of Hearers and Solitary Realizers is completely distinguished by the supramundane path. Because of the nature of having attained the transformation of the basis, it is certain that they will not fall back to lower grounds, and they will only ascend to attain the unsurpassed enlightenment of the ultimate fruit. Therefore, in the end, all will realize the state of unsurpassed Buddhahood. In particular, the Hearer Vehicle realizable lineage, as Hearers,
