That is so. All actions should be practiced without forgetfulness. It is difficult to be overcome by karma and afflictions. The virtuous friend turns one away from the state of carelessness. He liberates one from the city of samsara. Son of good family, therefore, one should go to the virtuous friends with uninterrupted attention. One should serve the virtuous friend with a mind like the earth, unwearied by all burdens; a mind like a vajra, indestructible; a mind like a servant, undertaking all tasks; a mind like a broom, destroying pride; a mind like a dog, without anger; and a mind like a virtuous son, looking upon the face of the virtuous friend. Son of good family, you should generate the perception of yourself as a patient, the virtuous friend as a doctor, the teaching as medicine, and diligence as nursing. The cloth offered to a stupa should not be exchanged for gold, because the offerings for a stupa should never lack the offerings for the stupa. From the Samadhi of Heroic Progress: Know that if one person holds warmth for another, it will be known to be blameworthy. From the Sutra of the Condensed Meaning of All Dharmas, which is Extremely Extensive: Whoever does not respect the one who speaks the Dharma does not wish to see the Buddha. Whoever speaks unpleasantly to the one who speaks the Dharma abandons the Buddha completely. Those foolish ones say this to those who have perfectly accomplished the six perfections for the sake of enlightenment of the Bodhisattvas: "If the six perfections, such as the perfection of wisdom, have been perfectly accomplished, what need is there for the Bodhisattvas to study the remaining perfections?" And if they think to disparage the other perfections, they think thus: "I, Ka Shi
