And also abide in that. Therefore, one obtains the samadhi called "Going happily in all dharmas." Even if sentient beings fall into the suffering of hell, they will abide in the thought of happiness, as stated in the Sutra of Father and Son Meeting. O Joyful One, in the Sutra of Renunciation, it is said: For billions of kalpas, and hundreds and trillions of years, if one does not hear the name of the Buddha, it is even more difficult to see the Buddha. The Udumbara flower is extremely difficult to find on a tree, just as the Buddha is difficult to find. Since you have found it, O Joyful One, you should renounce. Leisure is extremely difficult to find, and you have found it. O Joyful One, since you have seen the teacher, do not displease me. That yoke with a hole, when moved by the wind, causes it to drift in all directions. O Joyful One, one in a hundred chances, the neck of a blind turtle may enter the hole of the yoke. O Joyful One, obtaining a human body is not so. The perfection of leisure is also the same. In "Dispelling the Darkness of the Ten Directions," in the northwest direction, there dwells one called "Buddha Who Destroys All Doubts." He dwells under the Bodhi tree, causing all the gods of the demonic hosts of the three thousand worlds to never turn back from unsurpassed Bodhi. Such is the power of a great man. In all activities, day and night, one should remember that Buddha, and also not abandon the mind of Bodhi, and you will not have fear. In the Great Lion's Roar of Maitreya, there are four types of mendicant thieves. These are monks who abide in the appearance, signs, and form of a mendicant, but violate the precepts, possess sinful dharmas, go to solitary places, abide in unwholesome thoughts, and, like those who have not attained the fruit, are attached to gain and so on, and die thinking they have attained the fruit, praising themselves and disparaging others. The Buddha said: O Light Protector, the Tathagata will soon pass into Nirvana. It was requested: For the sake of protecting the Holy Dharma, please remain for an eon or more. The Buddha said: Even if a thousand Buddhas were to teach the Dharma with miracles, if it is not a virtuous person

Those who hold onto sins do not use the means to abandon or prevent them. The Blessed One taught: Maitreya, in the last five hundred years of the degenerate age, there will be those who claim to be Bodhisattvas but behave like dogs. When they see other monks coming to the house of a patron they used to frequent, they will look with anger and say things like, "There are these faults here." They generate much non-merit for the sake of a few mouthfuls of repulsive, impermanent, and despicable food. They behave like pretas, being greedy and narrow-minded. They claim to be Bodhisattvas in name, but with sinful thoughts in their minds, they praise the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to obtain food and drink. Maitreya, for example, they roar like lions but do the work of foxes. They praise the four means of gathering others, but they do not practice generosity and other virtues towards beings. They only speak words, but they do not truly strive with actions related to merit. They rejoice when others do not obtain, but they are not like that when they themselves obtain. They become unhappy when others obtain, but when they themselves possess all the means of happiness, they are unwilling to give to others. See how inverted they are! When monks go to the houses of patrons, they should not talk about worldly possessions and trivial matters, except for Dharma talks, because these are not beneficial. Therefore, it is taught: If someone were to fill worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges with supreme jewels and offer them to the Victorious Ones with a joyful mind, and another were to give a single verse to a single sentient being, the gift of the verse accomplished with compassion is so much greater than the gift of jewels that it cannot be compared, counted, or even conceived of as two or three verses. Those who are on the Bodhisattva path, having completely purified their karma, will not be born in the lower realms due to unwholesome actions. However, because they wish to liberate others as well as themselves, they are filled with caution and fear, quickly purify their sins, and fear the next life.

It should be observed. Here, there is no self and sentient beings, no life and no person. What is the unsurpassed patience? That giving is the great giving. Without wavering from the conduct of peace, one should fully train in discipline. Whoever beautifully realizes the conduct of peace, that is said to be the supreme discipline. Also, strive with steadfast diligence. Abandon all conditioned phenomena. What is it to view solitude? That is said to be the Buddha's diligence. Because the nature of things is emptiness, therefore burn all things. What is it to be without afflictions? That is meditation without an object. Not this shore, nor the other shore, nor should one dwell in the middle. What is it to equally view the three times? That is the supreme wisdom. The great Elder Katyayana said: Not this shore, nor the other shore, nor should one dwell in the middle. What is it to equally view the three times? That is the supreme wisdom. The great Elder Katyayana requested: For the sake of benefiting many beings, please explain the cause of bodhisattvas with inferior superior thoughts becoming hypocritical. The Buddha taught: In the final five hundred years of the degenerate age, those bodhisattvas who are influenced by evil friends and have inferior superior thoughts will diligently engage in offerings to the relics of the Tathagata, from flowers to lamps. Katyayana, I have explained the offering by which those who lack wisdom can perfectly accomplish the roots of virtue, and foolish people will become even more diligent in this. Before the world with gods, I command you to abide by diligently following the path of taming yourselves and cultivating peace. If there are Brahmins and householders with faith, they will make offerings to my relics. Having said this, look at how foolish people abandon yoga, asceticism, learning, and recitation, and rely on offerings to relics for their livelihood. Whoever fills the water mass from the water element to the Brahma world with grain oil, erects a wick the size of Mount Meru, and makes offerings to the Tathagata, compared to a Bodhisattva with superior thoughts abiding in discipline, an Acharya
