Now, being full of joy, he dwells, having perfected the second dhyana. Among them, the complete clarity within is because those aspects of the Dharma that are incompatible with his second dhyana are nearly pacified and complete. Therefore, it is called complete clarity within. The so-called "becoming one continuum" means that all the searchings and investigations of the first dhyana are completely pacified, and like the tide of the ocean, they are obtained as becoming one taste. For example, just as all the waters flowing into the great ocean become one taste of salt, when a Bodhisattva enters the second dhyana, all the searchings and investigations of the first dhyana are pacified and become one taste, that is samadhi. From that samadhi, joy arises towards the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and through his joy towards the Three Jewels, virtuous Dharmas are perfected. From this, the desire to obtain forbearance of the Dharma of non-arising is extremely blazing, extremely bright, and extremely radiant. Because of that gathering, he is not attached to the second dhyana, but universally seeks the third dhyana. He thinks to himself: joy is an obstacle to the third dhyana. Thinking this way, from that joy, he abandons attachment, possesses equanimity and pure mindfulness, those who are said by the noble ones to dwell in happiness without joy, he dwells, having perfected the third dhyana. Having obtained freedom from attachment to the joy born from samadhi, that is not the constant bliss of no joy, but is of the nature of decay and destruction. It is impermanent, unstable, not lasting, and not trustworthy. He obtains such a mind. Knowing this way, he obtains an extremely strong desire for the forbearance of the Dharma of non-arising. Because of that strong desire, attachment to pleasure and pain does not arise. He abandons pleasure, and previously abandoned pain, and both pleasant and unpleasant feelings have ceased. It is neither pleasure nor pain, possessing equanimity and pure mindfulness, he dwells, having perfected the fourth dhyana. He enters the fourth dhyana, it is the mind of a friend, it is a pleasant mind, it is karma...

The capable mind! The luminous mind! The mindful mind! May all sentient beings aspire to that bliss, and because it manifestly inclines towards benefiting and bringing happiness to all sentient beings, the appearance of tolerance towards the unborn Dharma arises. When that appearance arises, one no longer rejoices in the vast state of the fourth dhyana, which is neither painful nor pleasant. One no longer clings to the bliss of equanimity and perfect purity of mindfulness. Because one does not cling to it, it will appear as emptiness. It completely transcends all perceptions of form, and when perceptions of resistance are extinguished, and one does not attend to various perceptions, thinking "space is infinite," one perfects the sphere of infinite space and dwells in it. It thinks thus: In short, there are two kinds of form here: the source and that which arises from the source. The form of the source is the four great elements. That which arises from the source is color, smell, taste, and touch, thus there are eight kinds of form. Through these forms, one completely transcends all perceptions, and perceptions of resistance do not arise, they will be extinguished. Wherever there is perception of form, there is perception of resistance, therefore, completely transcending all perceptions of form, perceptions of resistance will be extinguished. When perceptions of resistance are extinguished, one does not attend to various perceptions, and enters the state of thinking "space is infinite." Then, thinking "space is infinite," one perfects the sphere of infinite space and dwells in it. The Bodhisattva, dwelling in the sphere of infinite space, enters into samadhi, thinking thus: Space is infinite. For that which is infinite, how could there be a beginning, how could there be a middle? Therefore, all dharmas are without beginning, without end, and without middle. The Bodhisattva who has entered into samadhi in this way generates great compassion for sentient beings, and for dharmas, the knowledge of equality with space arises, and this is his diligence in tolerance of the unborn Dharma. He completely transcends the sphere of infinite space in all ways, thinking "consciousness is infinite,"
