The aggregates, realms, and sources that arise from these also obtain the name "dependent arising." These are without distinction, merely speculations of children. Mahamati asked: World Honored One, you have explained dependent arising, but you have only expounded the cause, and have not explained the manner of destroying it again by its own means. World Honored One, the non-Buddhists also say that things arise from somewhere, such as: the Lord and the ruler, the self and time, and the combination of atoms. They also say that it arises from a cause. World Honored One, although you have taught that things arise in other ways, there is no distinction in the conclusion. World Honored One, the non-Buddhists also say non-existence and arising from non-existence. World Honored One, you also say that from non-existence, things arise from conditions, and after arising, they also perish. World Honored One, what you have said, that old age and death arise from the condition of ignorance, is also saying what the causeless proponents say, and is not saying what the causal proponents say. Saying "this exists, therefore that exists" is acceptable for things that exist simultaneously, but not for things that arise sequentially and depend on each other. The non-Buddhist's statement is better, your statement is not good. Why? Because the non-Buddhist is not dependent arising, but manifests the result through the cause. World Honored One, you say that the cause also depends on the result, and the result also depends on the cause, and the cause and conditions are also mixed together, so that they also become unable to touch each other. Saying "this exists, therefore that exists" will make the world without a cause. The Buddha replied: Mahamati, because there is no grasper and grasped, and because one understands that it is only the manifestation of one's own mind, therefore one says "this exists, therefore that exists," but this is not saying cause and agent, and the cause and conditions will not be mixed together. For those who are attached to the grasper and grasped, and who believe that external objects of self-nature do not exist, but only understand the manifestation of their own mind, such a statement is faulty, but my dependent arising is stated.

It will not become a fault. Mahamati, illusion arises from the power of mantras of other beings, not from the power of the habitual tendencies of the negative karma of one's own discrimination. Children, individual beings, with the intention of falling into the characteristics of evil views, those who do not understand the appearance of their own minds as merely such, and who are attached to the characteristics of the action of cause and condition, which are suitable for arising, for the benefit of those, all dharmas are explained as the nature of illusion and dreams. Mahamati, all dharmas are without self-nature. Why is that? Mahamati, if one analyzes and observes with one's own wisdom in this way, since the self-characteristics and common characteristics of things are unreasonable, therefore it is said that all dharmas are without self-nature. If asked whether life and body are different from others, the answer is yes, this is the heretics who do not understand only mind, not the Buddha's answer, the Buddha did not give a prophecy of placement, because it depends on the capacity, temporarily not giving a prophecy. Because of clinging to wrong views as true, the five aggregates gather and the things that arise from the four elements arise. Mahamati, consciousness also appears to be attached to various places, and because of desire, it will connect to other realms. Those that arise from the earth element have the cause, which is the four great elements, but the four great elements do not have it. Why is that? Mahamati, because things, signs, characteristics, realms, the nature of action, and combination do not exist, the four elements do not arise. The function of things and so on arises from aggregation, not from not possessing signs. Therefore, Mahamati, the characteristics of the four elements and what arises from the four elements are speculated by the heretics, and it is not so. The appearance of various distinctions is called other-power, if distinguished in other ways, it will abide in heretical theories. Thinking is called awakening, because of seeing, it arises from cause, liberation from the two-grasping distinction, that is perfect accomplishment. Mahamati, all the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas are knowable
