He who cherishes his own life does not kill. He who cherishes his wealth does not take what is not given. He who cherishes his wife does not go to another's wife. Sons of good family, whoever thinks, 'I shall act according to the teachings of the Thus-Gone One,' should protect this one Dharma. Why is that? Sons of good family, whoever seeks the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, all seek it for the sake of their own happiness. No one wants to suffer themselves. Beings all desire happiness. This is a common saying: 'What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others,' I say. Sons of good family, this is the one Dharma that a Bodhisattva should always protect. Whoever hears this sutra will, at the time of death, see these very Bodhisattvas and, in one place, see Vulture Peak Mountain. Sons of good family, what is said to be the one Dharma by which the Thus-Gone One became manifestly, perfectly enlightened? There is no one Dharma. That which has no conception of any Dharma is the manifest, perfect enlightenment of the Thus-Gone One. Sons of good family, the Thus-Gone One has also realized that all Dharmas are unborn. From the Hundred Thousand Prajnaparamita Sutra. What is the gate of liberation, emptiness? It is like this: the mind that individually distinguishes that all Dharmas are empty of their own nature abides as the gate of liberation, emptiness. That is called the gate of liberation, emptiness. What is the gate of liberation, signlessness? It is like this: the mind that individually distinguishes that all Dharmas are signless by their own nature abides as the gate of liberation, signlessness. That is called the gate of liberation, signlessness. What is the gate of liberation, wishlessness? It is like this: the mind that individually distinguishes that all Dharmas are without manifestation abides. What is the faculty that makes the unknown known? It is the faculty of faith, diligence, mindfulness, and concentration of those who are learners who have not yet attained realization.
