Obtaining the vows of the three, practicing the Buddha's Dharma, and perfecting the perfection of discipline. The twelve kinds of patience are: enduring that all phenomena are momentary, enduring no-self, guarding oneself and others, refraining from quarrelsome speech, subduing, eliminating all entanglements, eliminating attachment and hatred, accomplishing the marks and characteristics, being born in the Brahma world, transcending harm from others, obtaining knowledge of cessation and non-arising, transcending the realm of demons, and seeing the Tathagata. Diligence is to perfect all dharmas and attain enlightenment, to go to the place of the Tathagata, to make offerings to the Tathagata, to please the Tathagata, to ripen sentient beings, to place those to be tamed in the Buddha's Dharma, to eliminate the ignorance of sentient beings, to cultivate wisdom for those to be tamed, to purify the Buddha-field, to benefit sentient beings without end, and to go to all Buddha-fields and manifest enlightenment in an instant. Samadhi is to be undisturbed and peaceful, not to flow after objects, to abide in the mind, to transcend the three realms, to subdue worldly attainments, not to be attached to them, to turn back samadhi, to be separated from the perception of things, to aspire to limited samadhi, to be extremely peaceful, to have awareness, and to guard the senses. Wisdom is to eliminate ignorance, to eliminate afflictions, to be without ignorance, to uproot ignorance, to destroy craving, wisdom is like a vajra, wisdom is like the sun, wisdom is like fire, wisdom is like a jewel, without characteristics, without wishes, and emptiness. If all sentient beings possess the merit of a universal monarch, with a hundred times that merit, one pore of the Tathagata can be accomplished. All the merit of the pores increases a hundredfold, then one minor mark is accomplished. After that are the marks, after that is the crown protuberance, after that is the Dharma wheel, therefore, even if all sentient beings ask questions, they can be answered with one sound.

After my Nirvana, King Ajatasatru will take eight shares of the relics and place them in a precious reliquary. He will have a place dug outside the city where King Ashoka will appear, to enshrine them. King Ashoka will appear one hundred years after my Nirvana. Then, my relics will appear, and after being venerated for seven days, eighty-four thousand stupas will be built. Whoever hears this Dharma discourse, including ants and other beings, should know that I also taught this Dharma in this garden, and also saw this assembled retinue. Regarding entering in accordance with the world, although those various ones have no bodies, they manifest body emanations according to the wishes of sentient beings; this is entering in accordance with the world. Even hundreds of millions of demons cannot divide the Sangha, yet he shows the division of the Sangha; this is entering in accordance with the world. Regarding the transmigration of existence, the cessation of the final consciousness is called death. The arising of the first consciousness is called birth. The eyes do not see forms, and the mind does not perceive phenomena; this is the supreme truth, which does not need the world. Regarding entering with loving-kindness, guarding all wealth without sharing it is a fault of a Bodhisattva. Even if a Bodhisattva has learned the precepts established by the Tathagata, if they have the mind of a Hearer, or the mind of a Solitary Realizer, or cling to appearances, or associate with them, they will fall away from the Bodhisattva's vows. The fault of a Bodhisattva who cannot tolerate emptiness. Thinking, "This one should be given offerings, this one should not be given offerings," is a fault of a Bodhisattva. Saying, "The Dharma should be taught to this one, this one is immoral, this one is not immoral," thus distinguishing and despising the immoral, is a fault of a Bodhisattva. What is diligence? Not abandoning the training, not abandoning vows, having loving-kindness for all sentient beings, not abandoning sentient beings, having a firm aspiration for enlightenment, not abandoning diligence, relying on and honoring virtuous friends, respecting the Dharma, and listening.
