所有的眷属们用香的檀香木，沉香，和有香味的酥油来焚烧供养。这样焚烧后，天、人以及四众眷属收集舍利，装入七宝的宝瓶中，在大城市的道路十字路口，用七宝建造佛塔，如果供养舍利，众生就能获得巨大的福德，脱离三有的痛苦，获得寂灭的安乐。阿难陀，四众眷属们，用七宝为佛陀的遗体建造佛塔后，还要建造三座佛塔。哪三座呢？就是：自佛的佛塔，阿罗汉的佛塔，以及转轮王的佛塔。为了让世间的一切众生知道皈依之处。阿难陀禀告说：世尊，如来降临世间时，为了慈爱众生，以十力，大悲心，十无畏，十二缘起和四谛，三解脱门，以及八种梵音响彻三界，并以具有五种颜色的慈悲之光照亮六道轮回，随顺众生的心意，调伏者获得四果，行于二乘道。有些众生获得了无漏无为的自佛菩提。有些众生证得了不退转的菩提果位。有些众生获得了无量的陀罗尼。有些众生获得了五眼和六神通。有些众生从三恶道中解脱。有些众生脱离了八无暇。有些众生脱离了天、人、三界的痛苦。如来的慈悲力量完全清净，如来的解脱之法不可思议，直到涅槃之间，世间的一切天、人以及四众眷属用七宝建造佛塔，如果供养舍利，就能获得巨大的福德，并且各自的众生都能脱离三界

All the retinues burn incense with sandalwood, agarwood, and fragrant butter. After burning in this way, gods, humans, and the fourfold retinue collect the relics, place them in a vase of seven jewels, and build a stupa with seven jewels at the crossroads of the great city's roads. If they make offerings to the relics, sentient beings will obtain great merit, abandon the suffering of the three realms, and attain the bliss of nirvana. Ananda, the fourfold retinue, after building a stupa with seven jewels for the relics of the Buddha's body, should also build three more stupas. Which three? They are: the stupa of the Pratyekabuddha, the stupa of the Arhat, and the stupa of the Chakravartin king. This is so that all beings in the world may know the place of refuge. Ananda reported: World Honored One, when the Tathagata descended into the world, out of compassion for sentient beings, with the ten powers, great compassion, ten fearlessnesses, twelve links of dependent origination and the four truths, the three doors of liberation, and the eight Brahma-like voices resounding throughout the three realms, and with the light of loving-kindness possessing five colors illuminating the six paths of samsara, in accordance with the minds of sentient beings, those who are tamed attain the four fruits, and practice the two vehicles. Some beings attain the stainless, unconditioned enlightenment of the Pratyekabuddha. Some beings attain the ground of irreversible Bodhi. Some beings obtain immeasurable dharanis. Some beings obtain the five eyes and six superknowledges. Some beings are liberated from the three lower realms. Some beings are freed from the eight unfree states. Some beings are freed from the suffering of the three realms of gods and humans. The power of the Tathagata's loving-kindness is completely pure, and the Tathagata's doctrine of liberation is inconceivable. Until nirvana, all the gods, humans, and the fourfold retinue in the world build stupas with seven jewels, and if they make offerings to the relics, they will obtain great merit, and each individual being will be able to escape the three realms.

Therefore, when the Buddha passes into Nirvana, it is fitting that all beings in the world, including gods, humans, and retinues, should build stupas with the seven precious things and make offerings to the relics, in order to follow the immeasurable great kindness of the Buddha's deeds. World Honored One, what benefit is there for sentient beings in building these three kinds of stupas? Build stupas and make offerings. The World Honored One said to Ananda: A Pratyekabuddha, having realized the very profound Dharma of dependent origination, is completely liberated from all existence, free from all faults, and becomes a field of merit for gods and humans. Therefore, by building a stupa and making offerings, one will obtain merit. It is for the sake of enabling many beings to obtain the supreme fruit after the Tathagata. Ananda, an Arhat is one who has exhausted the source of birth, does not take future existence, has perfected pure conduct, and has become a field of merit for the world. Therefore, building a stupa and making offerings to obtain merit is more abundant after a Pratyekabuddha, and it can also liberate beings. Ananda, although a Chakravartin King is not liberated from the afflictions of the three realms, he rules the four continents by the power of merit and benefits sentient beings with the ten virtuous actions, therefore sentient beings should respect him. Therefore, if the fourfold assembly builds a stupa and makes offerings, they will obtain immeasurable merit. Ananda asked again: World Honored One, after the Buddha passes into Nirvana, where should we, the fourfold assembly, cremate the body of the Tathagata in order to obtain the relics of the Tathagata? Please, World Honored One, reveal it. The World Honored One said to Ananda: After the Buddha passes into Nirvana, if the fourfold assembly cremates me in the city of Kushinagar, the people of that city will be punished by the king's law, and immeasurable disputes will arise, and not all will equally obtain merit. 我死后在城外火化，世人都能获得同等福报。 阿难请示道：世尊，佛陀涅槃荼毗后，四众弟子收集舍利，放入珍宝瓶中。用七宝建造何种佛塔，才能使众生生起信心并进行供养？请世尊开示。 世尊告阿难：佛陀涅槃，荼毗后，四众弟子收集舍利，放入七宝瓶中，在吉祥草城内的十字路口，用七宝建造三层佛塔，带有轮幡，用一切珍宝装饰庄严，用世人皆应敬奉的幡幢严饰，四面的门楼也用七宝制成，处处都用装饰品严饰。佛塔的每一层，四面都开设一扇门，在正对着星窗的里面，放入珍宝瓶，四众弟子应进行供养。 阿难，独觉佛的佛塔应有十一层，用各种珍宝装饰。 阿难，阿罗汉的佛塔应有四层，也用各种珍宝装饰。 阿难，转轮王的佛塔也用七宝制成， 但不带层级。这是为什么呢？因为他们没有从三界轮回的痛苦中解脱出来。 当时，莫竭波向世尊请示道：佛陀涅槃荼毗后，天、人及四众弟子应如何分配如来舍利，才能使所有人都进行供养？ 当时，世尊告莫竭波道：涅槃后，天人等收集佛陀舍利，应以极其恭敬的心，将舍利分配给三界和六道众生，使他们都能进行供养。 当时，帝释天主向世尊请示道：世尊

If I am cremated outside the city, all beings will equally obtain merit.
