, and the distinction between the impure, which is what is being explained. The detailed reasoning will be explained below. In the world, people say they act for the benefit of sentient beings, and they vow and demonstrate their power and thoughts, and they also desire to achieve the meaning of their words and to understand correctly. If one asks whether all these can be achieved as desired, it is not so certain. Some are achieved, and some are not. Why is that? It is because the nature of what is established by reasoning, which is recognized as its cause and condition, has the distinction of being completely pure and impure. A reason that possesses a completely pure nature can understand the meaning without distortion, and therefore can be achieved. A reason that possesses a completely impure nature will have a distorted perception of the meaning, and therefore cannot be achieved. Therefore, knowing the qualities and distinctions of the nature, one can abide in the correct view and also place others in the correct view, thereby avoiding falling into the hands of evil friends and acting knowingly. Not knowing the qualities and distinctions of the nature, one will abide in the wrong view and also place others in the wrong view, and even if taught by a virtuous friend, one will not understand, but will act according to one's own inclinations. Chapter Three, the section on the limbs of establishing reasoning, is complete. Regarding the nature of perfectly pure direct perception, it is said: "All conditioned things are impermanent, all conditioned things are suffering, all phenomena are without self; this is the nature of what is directly perceived by worldly direct perception." This is the nature that is being explained. Direct perception means that the consciousness produced by the four conditions is not obscured by the obscuration of self-nature, and thus clearly perceives the object. That is, the five present consciousnesses, together with the mental consciousness that arises from them, directly perceive the present object in the same time and object, and each recognizes the object in its own way. This is called the nature of direct perception. The mental consciousness alone perceiving the realm of phenomena is also called direct perception of phenomena. The eye consciousness and other consciousnesses, together with the mental consciousness, enter into the definite cognition of their respective objects, either entering simultaneously or all five consciousnesses entering together.

How does one enter (a state)? Existence can enter together with anything, but what enters simultaneously is, among the five consciousnesses, the consciousness produced by whichever is stronger, the power of the condition of the object or the power of attention, and the mind consciousness, the two enter together, but it does not enter simultaneously with all five. It also enters gradually together with the remaining ones, just as a circle appears when a torch is spun, because it is fast, it also appears as if all the consciousnesses of the sense faculties with form enter their respective objects simultaneously. The consciousness produced by the four conditions, called the reason of the four conditions, comes from the Abhidharma. The four conditions of eye consciousness are: the causal condition, the immediately preceding condition, the objective condition, and the dominant condition. What is the causal condition? It is the co-emergent and corresponding dharmas. What is the immediately preceding condition? It is that after any mind and mental factors, without interruption, the eye consciousness immediately arises or will arise. What is the objective condition? It is form. What is the dominant condition? It is all dharmas except for self-nature. Just as with eye consciousness, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind consciousness are also the same. The way consciousness arises is also as stated in this sutra, for this, the consciousness that takes and abandons with vast wisdom, relying on and abiding in this, the six aggregates of consciousness are: eye consciousness, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind consciousness will arise. For this, relying on the eye and form, etc., together with consciousness, eye consciousness will arise, following along with eye consciousness, simultaneously and with the same sphere of activity, the discriminating mind consciousness will arise. For this, with vast wisdom, relying on the ear, nose, tongue together with consciousness, and the body and tangible objects together with consciousness, body consciousness will arise, following along with body consciousness, simultaneously and with the same sphere of activity, able to
