However, if it cannot be understood, or to protect the other person's mind, for these reasons it is not spoken, but at other times, it is also possible to speak by combining it with a vessel. What are the signs? Or, one who has transformed from an ordinary person into a lama, and thus become a scholar, like the words of expressing wishes, speaking without concealment is impossible. Because, whoever grasps something that does not exist as existing, or confuses it with another thing that is not it, or sees something that exists as non-existent, or says it does not exist because it is obscured by some obstacle, or confuses its characteristics with others, is similar to some kind of illusion. Therefore, if you want to dispel the grasping of something that does not exist as existing, you should not say that it does not exist at all, but prove what causes the existing thing to arise, and declare it with that reason. If you want to dispel the view of seeing something that exists as non-existent, you should prove it only with the reason of existence, and say that it is obscured by this obstacle and cannot be manifested, and then prove and declare it with the reason of what exists and what is the obstacle. If there is a dispute about the characteristics, not arguing about whether the basis of the name exists or not, you should not only prove that the characteristics spoken by the other party are incorrect, but explain what characteristics you think are, and what other similar characteristics are, and declare it with the reason of the error. What are those? If you want to declare no-self, there is no so-called self apart from the five aggregates, but due to the afflictive mind generated by the habit of clinging to self since beginningless time, and the so-called Alaya consciousness, which stores the seeds of all dharmas and produces the cause of all appearing things, therefore clinging to it as self, in order not to separate it from the object, not realizing that it is the nature of consciousness, and thinking that there is a permanent, pervasive, and unique self, and so on. If you want to declare that there is a future life and the result of karma, then of course there is. If there were not those, this world would not exist, and no actions would arise. However, the previous life

Not remembering past lives, not knowing future lives, and not being able to discern the causes of experiencing happiness and suffering are all due to being obscured by obscurations. This explains the various aspects of obscurations that can be obscured by reason. Regarding conditioned phenomena, it is not accepted that they are momentary. If someone says they are permanent, then if those phenomena were permanent, they could not be destroyed. If it is thought that they do not perish, then from seeing the phenomena of destruction, it is evident that they are impermanent. Ordinary people, when looking from afar, may perceive the burning of fire or the flow of water as constant, just as being obscured by the four inversions, due to being accustomed to similar continuity, mistakenly regard similar continuity as permanent. All of these should be combined with the definition of valid cognition (pramana) and explained accordingly. The term 'speaking' refers to incorporating these contents into one's mind. Acharya Asanga expresses and elucidates in a manner similar to explaining the five ornaments of speech. What are the ornaments of speech? It should be understood that there are five: understanding the scriptures of oneself and others, fluency of speech, and being awe-inspiring, stable, and delightful. The term 'meaning' refers to the meaning of the three, such as the proposition. The term 'establishment' refers to how to diligently establish it with various rational arguments. The term 'knowing correctly' refers to also making the other party understand how not to be inverted, thereby understanding the true meaning. Becoming its cause and condition refers to the learning of establishing with reasoning. That is to say, with a valid cognition that possesses complete characteristics, in any object, it is established as desired. The reasoning for establishing the argument also has two aspects: completely pure and not completely pure. Among these, the characteristics of complete purity are five, and the characteristics of incomplete purity are seven. What are the five characteristics of complete purity? They are: the characteristic of being directly perceived, the characteristic of the directly perceived abiding in it, the characteristic of applying similar examples of one's own kind, the characteristic of being completely pervasive, and the characteristic of demonstrating the establishment of extremely pure scriptural authority. This is what is called completely pure valid cognition.
