Because it is not certain to be established, and the valid cognition that the Mimamsa school understands through meaning, such as recognizing that fire is hot, and thus also understanding through meaning that it can burn, this is in accordance with the inference following the nature of the Yogacara school. But if one has not seen fire burning, one cannot be scorched by warmth alone. Because one cannot be scorched by warmth alone, it is uncertain for establishment. Also, the Mimamsa school's non-object valid cognition, as well as the reversed valid cognition and knowing others through non-that, and liberation from self-knowledge, this is in accordance with the non-manifest valid cognition, because for all existing things, it is the valid cognition of establishment, so even without valid cognition, things will not cease to exist, because it is uncertain for non-existence. And, establishing the non-existence of things through the manifestation of non-that is also merely the manifestation of consciousness ending in the manifestation of non-existence, it will not become another valid cognition, and liberation from self-knowledge, because valid cognition must be something that can be measured by all in the world, but the existence of "self" itself has not been established, therefore it cannot be measured and established, because it is uncertain from the point of establishment. The similar valid cognition of the Nyaya school is in accordance with the valid cognition of the Mimamsa school, for example, if one says to someone who has never seen a cow, "A cow is like a buffalo," if he understands that the two are similar, but the cow does not have a hump and dewlap, etc., the example of similarity is also inappropriate, and it is only understood from the words indicated by others, therefore it contradicts the scriptural valid cognition, the nature of valid cognition is inconsistent. And, the nature of all conditioned things being impermanent and selfless, etc., from the stream of arising, is in accordance with the unconditioned permanence, and clinging to the existence of self, etc. For example, From recognizing that things are themselves, they appear to be permanent, such as rocks and diamonds. But if one says that in the continuum of beings there is also inconsistency like the interruption of the stream of change, and clinging to the existence of that itself, just as water flows and plants, etc., are harvested and then regrow, for impermanent things one also clings to the existence of that itself, therefore it is uncertain for establishment. And, the self is pervasive, because all qualities appear, so it is like space. But the self-manifestation is an inner brother, if combined with the four characteristics of manifestation, some consider it to be pervasive.

Observation. Some say that observing mustard seeds, thumbs, and dust particles contradicts itself, and is therefore refuted by direct perception, etc. These are all uncertain about what is to be established. Furthermore, unlike this, the characteristic of observing what is different from others, with examples, is uncertain for what is to be established because it has the characteristic of observing everything as the same. Therefore, this is called the characteristic of being non-pervasive. Because it is non-pervasive, examination by reason is also impure. Because it is impure, it should not be adhered to, as it is said, and that is its characteristic. Unlike this, observing what is different from others is as previously stated, observing what is different from the number and characteristics of valid cognitions, and observing what is different from any other object. These are called having examples, etc. The Lokayatas consider only direct perception as valid cognition, and they believe that consciousness arises from the four great elements, just as alcohol has the power to intoxicate. They say: The world exists only as the object of the senses, and after the body is destroyed and becomes dust, there is no rebirth elsewhere. This contradicts valid cognition and other views. If examined by the direct perception of mental consciousness, it can also be observed that consciousness exists apart from the four great elements. Gods and yogis of the world also observe that they transmigrate to other worlds. Therefore, it is not observed that consciousness arises from the four great elements, and that it ceases to exist after the body is destroyed. These are uncertain for establishment. In the Mahaparinirvana Sutra, the Brahmins who speak of causelessness say this: All phenomena exist by their own nature and do not arise from causes and conditions. For example, the tip of a thorn is naturally sharp, etc. To them, it appears that all phenomena arise from their respective causes and conditions. For example, a tree does not have the nature of arrows and spears, but through the conditions of a craftsman, it can be made into arrows and spears. In this way, the view of self-establishment is refuted, etc., which is extensively explained. The statement that all phenomena exist by their own nature, along with others, contradicts valid cognition and other views.
