And the reason for the occurrence of desolate fields is also the characteristic of the example of one's own lineage. The fact that those three characteristics come together and are certain to become one is the characteristic of being completely pervasive. Whatever is said by the omniscient one, in the scriptures of the three pitakas, that all phenomena are only mind, and that mind is the master of all phenomena, this is the characteristic of scriptural authority. Thus, it is established that it arises from the practice of direct perception that is completely purified by five characteristics. Why is that? Because direct perception is seen when the mind's examination is fully mature. Understanding that one can realize that something is only examined by the mind when it is without substance is complete purification. The tenth chapter is about making the direct perception of the Kadampa a valid means of knowledge. Making inference a valid means of knowledge in the Kadampa. So, what is inference as a valid means of knowledge? Abiding in that obscured object, the inference that is perceived by direct perception is first led upon, and experiences such as direct perception are completely purified by five characteristics. What are they? If there is a sign, etc., abiding, the mind that follows the direct perception, inferring and knowing the object related to it that is not directly perceived, this is the characteristic of inference. If there is something that is directly perceived now, such as a sign, etc., then where does it abide? Even if I previously perceived it directly and remembered it, or if it is known from others through the transmission of words that are directly perceived one after another, this is the characteristic of near direct perception, and establishing in the world that there are other things of the same kind as this is the characteristic of the example of one's own lineage. The characteristic and that characteristic, the three must be in agreement to be established, because it is certain to become one for the thing to be established, so it is the characteristic of being completely pervasive, and in conjunction with the characteristic of being certain to be spoken by the omniscient one, how the characteristics of phenomena arise in the scriptural authority, combined with the characteristic of scriptural authority. Inference becomes a valid means of knowledge, completely purified by five characteristics, measuring and establishing moments, etc., just like the five that are explained in the chapter on the characteristics of inference. Because of the causes and conditions of the formations, it is destroyed, and the subsequent continuum that arises and ceases is not the same, therefore.

Moreover, the rapid inference of momentariness is the characteristic of consequential inference of dharma and cause. In a subtle moment, gross impermanence exists. All conditioned phenomena are momentary, and the noble ones directly perceive them, which is called the characteristic of near-manifestation. Regarding internal and external conditioned phenomena, the mind's continuum rapidly transforms into others, and it is similar to seeing flames blazing or water flowing rapidly on hard ground, which is called the characteristic of an example of its own kind. The accomplishment of those three characteristics being assembled is definitely unique, which is the characteristic of complete ascertainment. In the teachings of the Tripitaka spoken by the Omniscient One, it is said that in each moment there are also the four characteristics of conditioned phenomena such as birth, and the four near characteristics: birth causes to be born, abiding causes to remain, aging causes to decay, impermanence causes to perish, etc., with detailed explanations of the reasons, which is the characteristic of a reliable teaching. Thus, the consequential inference with five characteristics establishes that all conditioned phenomena are momentary. From various sentient beings to various places, from where it is possible to directly perceive, inferring that other worlds also go in that way is the characteristic of consequential inference of cause, karma, and dharma. The life of each ordinary being is exhausted, and they are reborn in other worlds, which the noble ones directly perceive, which is called the characteristic of near-manifestation. In the Sutra Requested by the Noble Good Protector, it is said that going to other worlds also means that the formless aggregates go to the aggregate of consciousness. For example, the element of wind, whose form is not visible, rises and moves, and when it encounters fragrant scents such as flowers and foul odors such as decay, it carries those odors and is smelled. The form of that wind is not visible, and the form of that odor is not visible, but the continuum of the wind does not cease, and the foul and fragrant odors are not transformed into their respective tastes but are smelled. Similarly, both consciousness and karma are formless, but whichever matures, its result is similar to manifesting. Otherwise, the cause of any action that has been done
